Fatal Brevard County Car Crash on I-95 Likely Result of Speeding
A Kia carrying three people was involved in a fatal auto accident with a van on Monday, February 1st, within Brevard County. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that the incident took place during the mid-morning, sometime around 9:00, and that it involved vehicles that were traveling along the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, close to mile marker 117 and to where Palm Bay Road intersects with the major interstate. While the fatal incident remains under investigation, at the time of this writing we do have numerous reports from first responders to paint a fairly comprehensive picture of the events that led to the accident in question.
Pickup Crashes into Construction Vehicle, Catches Fire on I-4 in Orlando
A violent and fiery crash that took place early in the morning on Friday, January 22nd, in downtown Orlando resulted in massive traffic blockages and gridlock along the western lanes of the heavily trafficked Interstate 4. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place shortly before 7:00 in the morning, as many motorists were making their way from their homes to their places of work. One of these vehicles, a SGL construction truck, was hauling numerous pieces of construction material from the ongoing I-4 Ultimate project when the driver of this enormous vehicle attempted to merge into the western lanes of I-4.
Lake Wales Resident Charged with DUI After Crashing into Barbed Wire Fence
An employee with the Polk County Public Schools is currently facing charges after they were involved in an auto accident while driving a pickup truck on Sunday, January 31st. Current reports on the incident suggest that it took place close to 4:00 in the afternoon on the day in question. At this time, a 45-year-old Lake Wales resident was behind the wheel of a black Chevy Silverado truck and traveling down Lake Mabel Loop Road. The reports did not incite where this person was coming from, but based on the following events it is believed that they had consumed a fair amount of alcohol while at this location.
Indianapolis Woman Killed in Daytona Beach Pedestrian Accident
According to the authorities with the Daytona Beach Police Department, an investigation has been opened in the death of a Volusia County pedestrian after she was struck and killed by a pickup truck while attempting to cross the heavily-trafficked International Speedway Boulevard close to Red John Drive shortly before 7 a.m. on January 25th, 2021.
Fatal Orlando Motorcycle Accident on State Road 408 Kills Former Mayor’s Son
Tragedy struck two states on Wednesday, January 13th, 2021, after the son of a former New Jersey mayor was struck and killed in a fatal motorcycle vs. car accident shortly before midnight along State Road 408 in Orlando, Florida. The victim, along with his female passenger, were riding eastbound along the busy five-lane expressway when they rear-ended another vehicle on the roadway.
Central Florida Facing a Concerning Spike in Severe Motorcycle Accidents
According to the recently released annual crash statistics from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), the number of motorcycle accidents throughout the state decreased from 8,896 in 2019 to 7,978 in 2020 – a reduction of 918 collisions from one year to the next. And while this was certainly good news for local law enforcement agencies at the time, authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol have recorded an alarming uptick in the number of collisions involving motorcycles within the past two weeks…especially around the Central Florida region.
High-Speed Car Crash in Titusville Claims the Life of 48-Year-Old Driver
According to preliminary collision reports from the Titusville Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies, a 48-year-old man was killed on January 20th, 2021, after an oncoming vehicle drove through a red light and crashed into his car at a busy intersection near U.S. Highway 1 in Brevard County.
Tragic Marion County Rear-End Collision With Semi Kills Two Family Members
Two family members were killed and one was critically injured on January 19th, 2021, after their vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck that was hauling rebar along Interstate 75 near the U.S. 27 off-ramp, according to preliminary reports from the Florida Highway Patrol operating within Marion County.
2020 Marks Large Decrease in Automobile Accidents in Florida
Although much of the news out of Florida during 2020 was exceedingly grim, the pandemic still raging through our fair state did have one mildly beneficial effect. According to reporting from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the number of car accidents that took place within Florida during the 2020 year was dramatically reduced from that which occurred during 2019. While not confirmed, it is believed that this is the result of less people traveling to the state for tourist activities.
Pedestrians Leap to Safety After Van Careens Across Central Florida Beach
It is currently not clear if or how many people were injured in an incident involving an out-of-control car that took place on a beach in Cocoa Beach earlier this month. Reports from the Cocoa Beach Police Department indicated that it was close to 7:00 at night on Friday, January 15th, that a 39-year-old individual was behind the wheel of a Toyota van and driving down the eastern lanes of Minutemen Causeway before suddenly leaving the legal travel area and driving through an area supposedly closed off to traffic.
