High-Speed Car Crash in Titusville Claims the Life of 48-Year-Old Driver
According to preliminary collision reports from the Titusville Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies, a 48-year-old man was killed on January 20th, 2021, after an oncoming vehicle drove through a red light and crashed into his car at a busy intersection near U.S. Highway 1 in Brevard County.
Although the investigation into this fatal auto accident is still ongoing, authorities with the Titusville Police Department have managed to reconstruct most of the events leading up to the collision through viable witness testimonies. Their early reports indicate that at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, 48-year-old Jonathan Edward Duff was driving his 2001 silver Ford Mustang towards the intersection of Cheney Highway and South Washington Avenue in Titusville. As he attempted to make a northbound, left-hand turn from Cheney Highway onto South Washington Avenue, a 2006 gold Buick Lucerne entered the area of the intersection at a high rate of speed. For reasons that will certainly be uncovered in the near future, the 33-year-old driver of the Buick, Ronnie Dale Huggins Jr., proceeded to run the intersection’s red light and crashed into the Mustang with so much force that it caused Mr. Duff to be ejected from his vehicle.
Brevard County emergency responders and police officers who were in the vicinity of the deadly collision when it occurred raced to the scene of the accident and arrived within minutes of being dispatched. EMTs rushed to attend to the seriously injured men and both were transported to local hospitals for further medical treatment. Unfortunately, due to the severe nature of his injuries, Mr. Duff passed away shortly after arrival. The current condition of the other driver is unknown, however, he does face pending charges from the Titusville Police Department.
Car crashes and wrongful death accidents such as these are a far too common occurrence on our Florida roads. In this case specifically, it has yet to be determined whether the driver was distracted by a cell phone, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, suffered a medical episode, or simply disregarded the traffic signal. Regardless of what the authorities determine to be the cause, at the end of the day, an individual lost their life because of someone else’s negligent driving behaviors.
