Toyota Model Recall: 2005-2010 Toyota Tacoma
Even Toyota’s best-selling pickup truck is having trouble weathering the storm from recent recall activity and safety issues surrounding this popular Japanese auto manufacturer. The Toyota Company has been dealing with a flood of allegations over its failure to monitor safety issues on its product line properly. Much of the current attention is around a gigantic recall of millions of Toyota vehicles that applies to a range of model years across much of the company’s range of vehicles.
The main Toyota recall that is currently causing concern for drivers is split into two parts. A floor mat recall regards floor mats in some Toyota vehicles that can get in the way of the gas pedal, according to Toyota. The company has advised drivers involved in this recall to take the floor mats out of their vehicles. This floor mat recall involves six model years for the Toyota Tacoma from 2005 to 2010 models. Tacoma drivers can view Toyota’s recall website and use specific online tools to enter their VIN number to see if their vehicle is included in the recall.
Another recall regarding sticky gas pedals does not appear to involve the Tacoma. Both the floor mat recall and the sticky gas pedal recall appear to be related to customer reports of unintended or sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles. Toyota is still investigating this defect to determine what is causing the faulty acceleration.
Toyota is also talking about a possible “brake override system” for the Tacoma and other involved vehicles. The schedule for fixes to the recalled Tacoma trucks, says Toyota, will be “spread out over 2010.” Toyota is asking drivers to wait for letters from the company about when they can take their trucks in to be inspected by participating Toyota dealerships.
In addition to the massive recalls related to accidental acceleration, about 8,000 2010 Toyota Tacoma 4WD trucks are being recalled for a possible problem with the front driveshaft, according to a Feb. 12 recall notice on the Toyota recall website (https://www.toyota.com/recall). These kinds of safety recalls are important for larger vehicles like the Toyota Tacoma.
