Survey Finds That Laws Against Cell Phone Use While Driving Are Largely Ineffective
Although Orlando personal injury lawyers such as James O. Cunningham and other attorneys throughout Florida have strongly supported a ban on cell phone use while driving, Florida remains one of the few states in the country without laws banning the practice. However, according to a recent survey conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), cell phone use by drivers is common whether a state has laws preventing it or not.
Haines City Girl Struck By Car While Walking to School Bus
Polk County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a pedestrian accident involving a seven-year-old girl who was struck by a car and injured recently while she walked to a school bus. According to deputies investigating the accident, the girl was walking across Johnson Avenue to the school bus when she was struck by a car driven by a 45-year-old man who was traveling eastbound. Deputies say that the man drove around the bus despite the fact that the stop sign arm was deployed and the lights on the bus were flashing. The collision caused the girl to fly seven feet into the air and land on the roadway. She was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando, where she is listed in stable condition with serious injuries. She is expected to recover from her injuries. The driver was arrested and is being held in the Polk County Jail. Deputies report that the man will face reckless driving and other charges in connection with the accident
State Sponsors Racecar to Raise Awareness About Pedestrian Safety
James O. Cunningham and other Orlando pedestrian accident lawyers applaud any efforts to make our area safer for pedestrians, including outside-the-box thinking like the state’s latest campaign. The Department of Transportation’s latest method may be unorthodox, but, as long as it works, that’s all that matters. The DoT recently sponsored a Toyota Camry racecar driven by Joe Nemechek, who drove 120 laps in a race at Daytona International Speedway with his number 87 car sporting the agency’s pedestrian-safety motto, "Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow."
DeLand Police Warn Residents About Dangerous Dogs
DeLand police and other dog bite attorneys are warning residents to be watchful for a pair of dangerous dogs that has killed at least two cats and four ducks in recent weeks. The deaths of the cats and birds have been confirmed, but officers suspect that the dogs may be responsible for several other pets that have gone missing. Witnesses say that the dogs are pit bulls or pit bull mixed breeds, and DeLand police are asking anyone who sees the animals to report the location to the authorities immediately. Police have spotted the dogs and have taken photographs of them on at least two occasions but have been unable to apprehend them thus far.
