Florida Malpractice Attorneys Challenge New Florida Law
Just a few weeks after Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed two bills that change how medical malpractice case procedures are conducted, Florida lawyers have filed at least five lawsuits, which challenge the new laws. The new laws stipulate that any medical experts who testify in a malpractice case must be the same medical specialty as the physician who is the defendant in the case. The new laws also allow defense attorneys in malpractice cases to obtain medical information about the plaintiff in the case from subsequent healthcare providers. This provision is the reason that Florida medical malpractice attorneys have filed the lawsuits.

Auto Accidents Force Florida to Lower Speed Limit on Interstate 4
Drivers passing through Central Florida on Interstate 4 may need to add some travel time as they head north or south through Volusia County. State highway officials recently announced that they are lowering the speed limit on a 14-mile stretch of I-4 due to construction work and the inordinately high number of accidents recently. Officials are lowering the limit from 70 mph to 60 mph for the affected portion of I-4 after dozens of accidents were reported over the last couple of months. A spokesperson said a traffic study concluded before the construction began found that lowering the speed limit would not be necessary while the road was resurfaced.
Article Sheds Light on Orlando’s Pedestrian Accident Problems
A recent feature article published in the Orlando Sentinel provided some insight as to why Central Florida is either the most dangerous place for pedestrians in the country, or the second-most dangerous, depending on how you view the data. The article reinforced what James O. Cunningham and other Orlando personal injury lawyers have been saying for years — that city officials, the law enforcement community and Floridians need to step up efforts to make area roadways safer for non-motorized traffic.

Florida Lawyers Challenge New Medical Malpractice Law
Five Florida attorneys have filed separate lawsuits in state and federal courts recently to overturn a new state law, which offers protection to doctors facing medical malpractice charges. They claim that the new law violates a person’s right to privacy provided by the Florida constitution, as well as violating a federal law that protects patient’s privacy. While not requiring medical professionals or their representatives to do so, the new law does allow health care providers to be called as witnesses, which could breach patient confidentiality and provide defense attorneys with information about a patient’s treatment.
