Blown Tire Causes Fatal Wreck on Interstate 75
A dump truck traveling southbound on Interstate 75 caused a multi-vehicle accident that killed one person and injured others in Pasco County. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the dump truck blew a tire just north of State Road 52. When the driver’s side front tire blew out, the driver was unable to maintain control of the vehicle. The dump truck veered sharply right and hit a 1998 Ford Van that was traveling in the lane immediately left of the truck, before turning over and striking the median. Another dump truck that had been traveling behind the previous truck also slammed into the overturned dump truck.
Passenger Perishes in Florida Turnpike Rollover Crash
A mid-day SUV rollover accident at the corner of U.S. Highway 1 and Fischer Street in Stuart has left one man dead and four others injured. Three people, including the deceased, were traveling southbound on U.S. 1 in a silver Honda CR-V when they attempted to make a left hand turn onto Fischer Street. The CR-V turned into the path of a Chevy Tahoe traveling northbound on U.S. 1. The Tahoe struck the CR-V in the passenger side, flipping it over onto its top. The CR-V continued to slide across the intersection before coming to rest against a pole.
Two-Vehicle Crash Leads to Construction Worker Being Hit by Truck
On the evening of Thursday, November 19, 2015, an unusual two-vehicle accident occurred in Yulee which caused a pedestrian construction worker to be hit and pinned under one of the vehicles. The worker, who was on the job with others at a construction site just east of U.S. 17 at the time of the crash, was essentially run over by a pickup truck after its driver says he was rear-ended by a semi-truck.
Over a Dozen Victims Involved in Multi-Car Crash in Melbourne
In a large multi-car pile-up accident on Saturday, November 21, 2015, more than a dozen people were injured. The accident occurred in Melbourne in the southbound lanes of I-95, around mile marker 180. Because of the size of the accident and the number of vehicles involved, all lanes of the interstate had to be closed temporarily, backing up traffic. On Saturday night, however, the right lane was able to be re-opened to normal usage.
Boca Raton Woman Dies in Crash on I-95
After a serious car accident on I-95 the night of Friday, November 20th, 2015, a middle-aged Boca Raton woman was killed. The victim, 44-year-old Hanna Tichy, was headed southbound on I-95 through Deerfield Beach in her 2005 Kia Sorento when she apparently swerved to the right and managed to flip the vehicle two times. According to reports, Tichy lost control of her car around 10:30 p.m. just south of the Hilsboro Boulevard exit.
Brevard County Auto Accident Injures Five
On the evening of Saturday, November 21st, 2015, the southbound lanes of I-95 were shut down for roughly two hours after a multi-vehicle accident occurred, injuring 5 people. The accident, which occurred around 8:00 pm at the State Road 192 overpass, created a nearly one-mile backup of traffic behind the location of the scene. Eventually, the accident was cleared by police and emergency personnel and traffic was able to resume.
St. Augustine Beach Man Critically Injured When Teen Driver Strikes Him in His Wheelchair
A man riding in a motorized wheelchair was left with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a car on A1A South in St. Augustine Beach and pinned under the vehicle on November 20th. When St. Augustine Beach Police arrived at the scene, they found a motorized wheelchair operated by Craig Lightner, 67, had been struck by a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis operated by Zoe Walker, 19. Craig was pinned under the Mercury, and was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses at the scene told investigators that Craig’s wheelchair may have become disabled in the roadway just prior to the crash, the Sheriff’s Office said. However, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
New Multi-Million Dollar Traffic Center in Jacksonville Will Decrease Traffic Jams
Employees from the State Department of Transportation and the Florida Highway Patrol have joined together under one roof to work together in the brand new Regional Transportation Management Center. Housed in a $11 million facility just north of downtown Jacksonville, the traffic center contains a massive room filled with 32 state-of-the-art workstations and a wall of monitors (18 to be exact) that stream real-time traffic conditions from hundreds of roadside cameras along Northeast Florida’s highways.
Polk County Chain-Reaction Crash Takes Life Of Young Boy
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a 2-year-old boy was tragically killed when the car he was riding in was involved in a four-vehicle crash on Rockridge Road in Polk County, Florida on October 28th. Deputies said that several vehicles had stopped to allow a school bus to let children off in the northbound lane of Rockridge Road.
I-75 Accident Sends Thirteen People to the Hospital
An accident in Columbia County Friday afternoon sent a total of thirteen people to area hospitals. At approximately 4 p.m., three vehicles collided in the northbound lanes: a Toyota Forerunner, a tow truck and a White Ford van carrying at least a dozen passengers. Most of the injured were occupants of the Ford van. Ten people were transported via ambulance, which three of the injured were transported via helicopter with life threatening injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it is thought to be the result of several vehicles slowing down suddenly. The Ford Van was rear-ended by another vehicle, went sent the van into the median.
