Two-Vehicle Crash Leads to Construction Worker Being Hit by Truck
On the evening of Thursday, November 19, 2015, an unusual two-vehicle accident occurred in Yulee which caused a pedestrian construction worker to be hit and pinned under one of the vehicles. The worker, who was on the job with others at a construction site just east of U.S. 17 at the time of the crash, was essentially run over by a pickup truck after its driver says he was rear-ended by a semi-truck.
The driver of the pickup truck, Joe Hannan, says that he never meant to hit the construction worker, but that after he was hit from behind he had no opportunity to stop or avoid it. In fact, the drivers of both vehicles involved in the crash told local news outlet News4Jax that neither of them had sufficient time to react properly to other construction workers’ abrupt warnings to stop. Hannan, a firefighter, says he actually tried to help the man out from where he was pinned under his pickup truck.
After the construction worker was hit, Nassau County emergency response officials had him taken to the hospital by ambulance for immediate treatment. So far, neither the construction worker’s identity nor the extent or type of his injuries have been released to the media. Fortunately, sources have indicated that anonymous injured construction worker will survive, despite the trauma of having been struck by and pinned under a hefty pickup truck. In the meantime, Florida Highway Patrol officials are still investigating the incident to determine whether any particular individual was at fault. Whatever the case, it is quite apparent that neither driver intended for anyone to get hurt.
