Five People Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-95
On December 31, 2015, a 47-year-old man and his three passengers – all family – were killed in a wrong-way crash incident on I-95. The unfortunate New Year’s Eve accident happened in Miami-Dade County in the interstate’s northbound express lane when a young woman drove her truck south toward three northward sedans.
Man Injured in Collision with Patrol Car in Panama City
A Panama City Police officer is being cited for "following too closely" by the Florida Highway Patrol after a wreck on the afternoon of Monday, January 4th. It happened about 4:15 p.m. near the intersection of 18th street and Danford Avenue in Panama City.
Jacksonville Woman Killed in Crash on I-295
In an unfortunate auto accident on the evening of Sunday, December 27th, 2015, a young woman was killed on I-295 near Alta Drive. The driver, 21-year-old Jacksonville resident Madisson Russell, was in the left lane of the highway when her vehicle veered to the left and went off the road. Russell then appeared to have attempted to return to the left lane, over-corrected, and continued through the right lane and off the highway again, where her car eventually hit a tree.

Customers at a Lecanto McDonald’s got quite the scare on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 29th when a police chase ended with the suspect smashing his vehicle into four cars in line at the restaurant’s drive-thru.
West Palm Beach Power Outage May Be To Blame for Fatal Crash
A power outage that occurred Sunday night in West Palm Beach may have played a central role in a fatal car crash at the intersection of Okeechobee and Military Trail. The power outage, which affected several blocks in the area, may have caused the traffic signal that controls the busy intersection to malfunction. At the time of the accident, the traffic light did not show any signals.
Miami Firefighter Suspended After Emergency Vehicle Crash
A Miami firefighter received a suspension this week for being behind the wheel during a violent collision that injured a dozen people back in August 2015. Two investigations concluded Gustavo Alzate was responsible for causing the crash involving the fire truck he was driving and an ambulance. "We could have done a better job of preventing that accident," said Miami Assistant Fire Chief Pete Gomez.
Jacksonville Wrong-Way Collision on Interstate 295
A head-on wrong-way collision on Interstate 295 critically injured two drivers in each of the vehicles, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. William Uhrmann Jr., 28, of Jacksonville was southbound in the center lane of the northbound lanes of the interstate shortly after 4 a.m. and collided with a northbound car driven by Wallace Beale, 69, of St. Johns near the exit for southbound I-95. Police are still investigating the accident to figure out the cause of Uhrmann’s wrong-way travel. Police had received several calls from other drivers about the wrong-way driver and were responding when the collision occurred. Both men were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
College Football and New Year’s Eve Celebrations Increase Risk of Accidents
For many people, New Year’s Eve plans involve parties, celebrations, football or some combination of the three. For football fans, this time of year brings joy in the form of several bowl games, many of which are played in the state of Florida. The Orange Bowl in Miami on New Year’s Eve and the Citrus Bowl in Orlando on New Year’s Day will bring thousands of travelers from out of state, in addition to all of the Floridians that will be attending the games or headed to their favorite local spot to watch the game on TV. Many of these revelers will enjoy at least a drink or two during the festivities.
Florida Man Crashes Car into Strip Mall
A Florida man crashed his Dodge Challenger into a strip mall in Pensacola on the morning of December 20th. Pensacola police report that the man, whose name has not yet been released, told police that he wanted to "time travel" much like in the popular movie "Back to the Future." The Challenger crashed through the front door of Advance Tax Services, traveled through the building and came to rest just short of the building’s rear entrance. No one was in the building at the time of the incident as it occurred on a weekend.
Two Vehicle Crash Kills Teen in Lake Placid
A 15-year-old Lake Placid teenager was killed last weekend when the go-cart he was driving collided with a 2005 Chevy Impala at about 12:50 am on Highlands Boulevard. The driver of the go-cart was traveling northbound and the Impala was southbound on Highlands when the Impala entered the opposing lane to pass traffic. The driver of the Impala could not see the go-cart because it did not have lighting attached and sits very low to the ground. The impact sent the go-cart into a spin into the northbound lane where it came to rest on the east shoulder. Paramedics pronounced the teen dead at the scene. No one in the Impala suffered any injuries.
