Orlando Man Killed in Orange County Tractor-Trailer Accident
Last Monday evening, a semi-truck loaded with sod was attempting to make a U-turn at the intersection of East Colonial Drive and Sherman Street in Orange County. According to the report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol, during the attempted turn, the tractor-trailer became stuck due to the tightness of the turn. The driver of the truck, the 68-year-old Ronald Cray from St. Cloud, then began to reverse in an attempt to free himself from the situation.

Twenty-Two People Hospitalized After Train and Garbage Truck Collision
Hundreds of workers who depend on the Tri-Rail train service in the Palm Beach area were late to work on Monday January 4th due to an unexpected collision near the Lake Worth Station early that morning. According to The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, a City of Lake Worth garbage truck broke down on the train tracks shortly before 7 a.m. and was struck by a northbound Tri-Rail train before it could be removed. The accident caused the train to derail and delay train service county-wide for the entire day. As a result of the accident, twenty-two passengers were sent to the hospital, but reports say that the injuries were minor and that miraculously no one was seriously injured.
Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer
In an unfortunate accident on I-10 on the night of Thursday, November 19th, a multi-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck led to one fatality. The crash, which happened around 6 p.m. that evening, created a significant backup in traffic. In fact, all eastbound lanes of the interstate were blocked off for several hours, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The accident occurred in Jacksonville around Chaffee Road, causing drivers to be detoured onto U.S. 90 during the extended road closure. Traffic eventually resumed as normal, after all victims were addressed and the lanes could be cleared by authorities.
Multi-Vehicle Semi Crash on I-75 Leaves Several Injured
On the evening of Wednesday, November 18th, 2015, a severe crash on I-75 involving multiple passenger vehicles and three semi-trucks led to at least one fatality. The accident, which happened around 5:30 pm that evening, occurred near the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville. Later, it was determined that three individuals were critically injured in the crash, three more suffered mild injuries, and one, the driver of a Wiley Sanders semi-truck, was killed.
Man Killed in Hillsboro County Semi Truck vs. Car Accident
A man from Apollo Beach man died on November 9th, when he was involved in a crash with a semi-truck in Hillsborough County. Kevin James Davis, 38, was driving south on U.S. 41 when investigators say a semi-truck turned into his path, and his BMW crashed into the trailer. Davis died from his injuries at the scene of the crash. A second semi, which was also heading south, hit the debris from the crash, but neither semi driver was injured in the crash. Investigators say charges are still pending.
Gainesville Trucking Accident Sends Several Victims to the Hospital
A fiery crash on I-75 near Gainesville sent several victims to area hospitals late Wednesday afternoon. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just after 5 p.m. and involved at least two semi-tractor trailer trucks and several passenger vehicles. One of the trucks contained was leaking diesel fuel and caught fire. Large plumes of black smoke could be seen for a least a mile. First responders were on the scene, including fire fighters, police, and hazardous spill specialists to help contain the blaze and prevent further injuries.
Miami Tractor-Trailer Accident Kills Two
In late May, a 17-year-old girl and a 29-year-old man from Miami were killed when a tractor-trailer with construction materials on it pulled out onto the Interstate and the man’s car slammed into the truck. The crash caused concrete barriers to fall from the truck onto the car, killing both passengers. Authorities are investigating whether or not the barriers were properly secured.
Florida Truck Accidents on the Rise
Vehicle safety is constantly scrutinized and improved upon, but less talked about is truck safety, which is not as safe as you might think. In 2013, the number of people who died in large truck crashes was 14 percent higher than in 2009. While other types of highway accidents decrease, truck accidents are increasing.
