Man Killed in Hillsboro County Semi Truck vs. Car Accident
A man from Apollo Beach man died on November 9th, when he was involved in a crash with a semi-truck in Hillsborough County. Kevin James Davis, 38, was driving south on U.S. 41 when investigators say a semi-truck turned into his path, and his BMW crashed into the trailer. Davis died from his injuries at the scene of the crash. A second semi, which was also heading south, hit the debris from the crash, but neither semi driver was injured in the crash. Investigators say charges are still pending.
While fatal trucking accidents such as this are not uncommon, many do not realize that when the negligent actions of a trucking company or truck driver result in injury or death, victims and their families deserve to be fully compensated. Trucking companies are required to follow federal regulations regarding a number of concerns, and if faulty equipment or negligence of the employed driver cause a crash like this one, there is often full compensation available for the victim, and in the case of the death, the family members of the victim.
The first step in defending a trucking accident victim in a case like this, is to work alongside accident reconstructionists, expert witnesses, and the highway patrol to figure out what caused the crash. Our firm relies on these sources to uncover the reason for the accident by looking at skid marks, driver’s log books, debris from the accident (such as material remains from a tire blowout) and other crucial evidence. This evidence helps these experts piece together such factors as the truck’s speed, distance traveled after impact, and the driver’s reaction time. By determining these factors, the task of establishing the cause of the truck accident and establishing clear liability becomes much easier.
This step is especially important in the case of death, when family members rely on our firm and these professionals to uncover the reason behind the loss of their loved one.
