Over a Dozen Victims Involved in Multi-Car Crash in Melbourne
In a large multi-car pile-up accident on Saturday, November 21, 2015, more than a dozen people were injured. The accident occurred in Melbourne in the southbound lanes of I-95, around mile marker 180. Because of the size of the accident and the number of vehicles involved, all lanes of the interstate had to be closed temporarily, backing up traffic. On Saturday night, however, the right lane was able to be re-opened to normal usage.
Multi-Vehicle Semi Crash on I-75 Leaves Several Injured
On the evening of Wednesday, November 18th, 2015, a severe crash on I-75 involving multiple passenger vehicles and three semi-trucks led to at least one fatality. The accident, which happened around 5:30 pm that evening, occurred near the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville. Later, it was determined that three individuals were critically injured in the crash, three more suffered mild injuries, and one, the driver of a Wiley Sanders semi-truck, was killed.
Woman Crashes into South Florida House, Forgets It Ever Happened
In an incredibly unusual and unlikely turn of events, a woman in south Florida crashed her car into the side of a house and then completely forgot about the entire incident. According to authorities, the driver failed to negotiate the turn around a curve in Lauderdale Lakes on the morning of Thursday, November 19, 2015. She then crashed into a home and initially left the scene. Later, said Mike Jachles of Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, the young woman showed back up in only a bra and pants to ask whether anyone had seen her car. She was later arrested for leaving the scene of the crash.
Worker Driving Lawn Mower Hit and Killed by Car in Orlando
In an unfortunate and unusual accident on Thursday, November 12, 2015, an Orlando maintenance worker who was driving a lawn mower was hit and killed by a car. The incident, which occurred within the Orlando neighborhood in which the man was working at the time, occurred when a blue Toyota vehicle smashed into the back of the lawn mower, where its driver was standing. Immediately after the accident occurred, the driver of the lawn mower was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Boca Raton Woman Dies in Crash on I-95
After a serious car accident on I-95 the night of Friday, November 20th, 2015, a middle-aged Boca Raton woman was killed. The victim, 44-year-old Hanna Tichy, was headed southbound on I-95 through Deerfield Beach in her 2005 Kia Sorento when she apparently swerved to the right and managed to flip the vehicle two times. According to reports, Tichy lost control of her car around 10:30 p.m. just south of the Hilsboro Boulevard exit.
Brevard County Auto Accident Injures Five
On the evening of Saturday, November 21st, 2015, the southbound lanes of I-95 were shut down for roughly two hours after a multi-vehicle accident occurred, injuring 5 people. The accident, which occurred around 8:00 pm at the State Road 192 overpass, created a nearly one-mile backup of traffic behind the location of the scene. Eventually, the accident was cleared by police and emergency personnel and traffic was able to resume.
Baby Saved from Burning Car Moments before Explosion in I-95 Crash
In an incredible, heartbreaking turn of events on the morning of November 20th, 2015, two men discovered a burning vehicle on the side of I-95 and were able to save the baby in the backseat – just moments before the car exploded. The driver and father of the baby, 31-year-old Daniel Dufek, was dead before the two good Samaritans ever reached the burning wreck.
Veteran Recovering from Surgery in Fort Lauderdale Returns to Demolished Home
A U.S. Navy veteran who underwent knee replacement surgery in Fort Lauderdale in December of 2014 returned home to Long Island earlier this year. When he pulled up to what should have been a two-story house, all he found was a vacant lot. His home had been demolished months earlier by the town of Hempstead, in which he lived.
Clearwater Woman Critically Injured in Pedestrian Collision
The daughter of a 53-year-old woman who was critically injured in a hit-and-run is pleading for the driver to come forward. Tammie Whiting was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in critical condition after she was hit by a vehicle on November 20th. Whiting, a mother of four and grandmother of six, sustained injuries that include major head trauma in the accident. Her daughter, Quantel, is now making a plea to the driver to come forward and turn himself/herself in. According to police, Whiting was crossing Myrtle Avenue at Turner Street in the crosswalk, and intersection in Clearwater Beach. She had waited for the green light before she was hit by a southbound car that had run the red light. The driver of the car then sped off, officials say.
After Multiple Incidents, Broward County Bus Driver Is Still Behind the Wheel
A Sun Sentinel review of county records recently revealed that Broward County Transit Driver Charles Raymond Smith has had 16 accidents, received 25 written warning slips, and served 30 days of unpaid suspension, since he began his job in 1994. Among the accidents that the county said were Smith’s fault include rolling his bus into a truck carrying metal pipes that burst the bus’s windshield, rear-ending a car at a green light where four passengers were hospitalized, and his most recent accident where he rear-ended a Chrysler while changing lanes that resulted in the driver being injured in June, 2014. The injured woman sued and her case was the one commissioners recently settled for $75,000.
