Worker Driving Lawn Mower Hit and Killed by Car in Orlando

In an unfortunate and unusual accident on Thursday, November 12, 2015, an Orlando maintenance worker who was driving a lawn mower was hit and killed by a car. The incident, which occurred within the Orlando neighborhood in which the man was working at the time, occurred when a blue Toyota vehicle smashed into the back of the lawn mower, where its driver was standing. Immediately after the accident occurred, the driver of the lawn mower was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

So far, there has been no official determination as to the cause of the accident, but some neighborhood residents suspect that excessive speed may have had something to do with it. Resident David Blackwood, for example, believes that this incident may serve as an unfortunate, but much-needed wake-up call to area drivers. He told Florida reporters that he often sees people speeding through the neighborhood. Although speed is not a certain factor in the maintenance worker’s tragic death, the president of the local homeowner’s association has stated that he plans to have speed bumps installed in the neighborhood.

The name of the driver of the blue Toyota who hit the maintenance worker has not been released, and the incident is likely still under investigation. Reports also did not address whether the worker was within local laws when he was riding the lawn mower along the road. Whatever the case, this tragic event has served as a reminder to locals that careless driving can lead to serious, even fatal, consequences.
