Teacher Injured in Orlando Auto Accident
A 33-year-old Evans High science teacher suffered injuries when her Jeep was struck by a stolen vehicle carrying three teens. Police report that the 17-year-old driver of the stolen Mitsubishi ran a red light and struck the teacher’s Jeep Liberty on the passenger side. The accident occurred around 7 a.m. on Nov. 26 near the high school at the intersection of Silver Star Road and Kingsland Avenue.
Police say that the teacher suffered minor injuries in the accident and that she was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment. The teen driver faces multiple charges in connection with the crash, including reckless driving, driving without a license and others. The accident occurred right in front of Orange County deputies who were “monitoring” the Mitsubishi, which had been reported stolen from the Fountain Auto Mall on Orange Blossom Trail. The teen driver and an 18-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash. The second passenger, an 18-year-old Orlando man, was not injured in the accident. The Sheriff’s Office has not released further information about the stolen vehicle or any charges the teens could face.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in this accident, but that is the exception in T-bone accidents where one car runs a red light and broadsides another vehicle. These violent collisions in intersections often result in serious, even fatal, injuries for those involved and often leave victims and their families wondering how and why the accident happened. In this case, the accident happened because three negligent and irresponsible teens were joyriding in a stolen car and recklessly ran a red light, endangering themselves and everyone in the vicinity.
