Careless Driving on Tampa’s Selmon Expressway Causes Lane Closures
Morning commuters heading east along Tampa’s Selmon Expressway were delayed on November 15th by an automobile accident that occurred around 8:00 a.m. A driver in a Chevy pickup truck was pulling a loaded trailer of wood and other debris at the intersection of Florida Avenue and the Selmon Expressway when he lost control of the vehicle. Witnesses say that the car began to swerve uncontrollably, and this caused the trailer to overturn, spilling its messy load over the entirety of the road and causing traffic to grind to a complete halt.
Fatal High-Speed Accident in Orlando
On November 12th, in Orlando, there was a high-speed accident on Orange County’s Pine Hills Road. While traveling northbound, Ashley Roberts, a 20-year-old Orlando resident, somehow lost control of her 2006 Toyota and began to swerve in and out of the southbound lanes. Witnesses say that in the moments before the head-on collision with a 1998 Honda driven by 26-year-old Tamiko Grant, Roberts appeared completely unable to navigate her vehicle. The impact caused by the two cars coming together was so violent that both of their rear ends lifted off the ground and objects came flying out of one of the trunks.
Florida Woman Drives Car Into Plasma Center
On Saturday, October 25, a woman rammed her car into the DCI Biological facility in Jacksonville, Florida. The woman was upset that DCI would not accept her as a client to donate blood plasma, and a short time later, returned in her vehicle and crashed into the building.
Study Finds Google Glass No Safer to use While Driving Than Smartphones

Researchers conducting a distracted driving study involving texting and driving using Google Glass found the hands-free eyewear is no safer to use while driving than a smartphone or any other telecommunication device. Google Glass allows users to send text messages via head commands and voice transcription technology.
Young Florida Driver Injured in Accident with SunRail
On Thursday, September 11, 2014, a young driver was injured in an accident with the SunRail transportation system. The incident occurred Old Lake Mary Road and West 25th street in Sanford, Florida right around 7:30pm at dusk. The vehicle was driven by a 19-year old male, whose name has not been released.
Multiple Auto Accidents Involving 26 Cars on I-4 in Florida
Florida Highway Patrol troopers had a difficult time assessing and clearing debris from a recent series of rear-end collisions on several east and westbound lanes of Interstate 4 in Deland. Troopers say the accidents began around 5:30 p.m. and involved nine separate crashes involving at least 26 vehicles between mile markers 121 and 127. They report that four of the accidents occurred in the westbound lanes of I-4 and five more occurred in the eastbound lanes. Most of the accidents were rear-end collisions and remain under investigation, according to troopers. At least three people were transported to area hospitals for treatment for undisclosed injuries and investigators say the number of uninjured is likely to rise in the coming days and weeks.
Kissimmee Crash Injures 4, Kills Kissimmee Man
An early morning accident near the intersection of Indian Point Boulevard and Poinciana Boulevard has claimed the life of one Kissimmee man and sent four others to the hospital. According to authorities, a northbound car driven by the Kissimmee man crossed the center line into the path of two oncoming vehicles. One vehicle managed to avoid the collision, but the other driver was not so lucky. The head-on collision that followed resulted in the death of the driver of the northbound driver and severe injuries to those in the southbound SUV.
Crash on Boggy Creek Road Kills Two Florida Women
An accident between an automobile and a dump truck Friday morning resulted in the deaths of two Kissimmee women, according to police. The incident occurred at the intersection of Boggy Creek Road and New Hope Road. The driver of the automobile had stopped at a stop sign on New Hope Road and pulled out to make a left hand turn directly in front of the oncoming dump truck. Both occupants of the car died at the scene.
Nine Auto Accidents on Florida I-4 Friday Night
A rash of accidents on Friday night had the Florida Highway Patrol extremely busy. A total of nine accidents, four in the westbound lanes and five in the eastbound lanes, had traffic moving slow in both directions on I-4 across the middle of the state. According to officials, twenty-six vehicles were involving in these incidents which occurred in the evening hours between milepost 121 and 127. Most of the incidents were rear-end collisions. It is unclear at this point whether all of the incidents were related.
Crash on I-4 Kills Kissimmee Man, Sends 5 Others to Hospital
On Saturday evening at approximately 7:25 p.m. a 2003 Ford Expedition was negotiating the US-27 exit in Davenport when the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled. The passenger in the front seat, a 36-year-old Kissimmee man was ejected from the vehicle and killed. Five other passengers in the vehicle were taken to nearby hospitals. The driver was unharmed. Polk County officials believe that speed and wet conditions may have been contributing factors to the accident.
