Man Killed in Polk County Florida Highway 27 Car Accident

A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Cypress Gardens Boulevard and US Highway 27 near Winter Haven fatally injured one man and sent three more to area hospitals. Police say one vehicle was southbound on Highway 27 and attempted to make a westbound turn when it was struck by another southbound vehicle early Sunday morning. Because the occupants of both vehicles have given authorities conflicting statements, it is unclear who was at fault in this accident.

More Information Forthcoming in Recently Released 911 Calls after Florida DUI Crash

The Florida Highway Patrol has released dozens of 911 phone calls that were placed in the minutes after Wednesday night’s horrific accident in Daytona Beach. A 45-year-old woman was walking the beach around 9:35 p.m. when she was struck by a Nissan pickup truck after the vehicle had plowed through a lifeguard stand. The 911 calls describe many grisly details of the incident…from persons trying to back the truck off the woman to a passersby trying to administer CPR.

Orlando Racing Incident on Interstate 4 Results in Multiple Charges and Arrest

Florida Highway Patrol troopers have announced that they have arrested at least one driver involved in a recent racing incident and pursuit on Interstate 4 in Orlando. The trooper who arrested one of the drivers involved in the race said that he was getting onto eastbound I-4 from State Road 408 around 4:30 a.m. on recent morning when he saw drivers racing in front of him.

Report Shows Florida Roadways Growing More Dangerous

Five People Injured in Florida Head-On Auto Collision

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say that a recent head-on collision in west Orange County sent five people to area hospitals for treatment for undisclosed injuries. Troopers say that the collision occurred around 9:25 a.m. as one of the drivers, a 58-year-old woman driving a 2013 Hyundai south on Powers Drive, suddenly crossed over the center line near the intersection with Balboa Drive. Troopers report that she drove directly into the path of another Hyundai driven by a 27-year-old woman with three passengers in her car, one of which was a 15-year-old boy.

Police Find Drugs in SUV that Crashed into Oviedo Fire Station

Oviedo police are looking for the driver and one occupant of a rented SUV that recently crashed into a fire station in the city. Investigating officers report that the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. at the fire station located on Central Avenue. They say that officers found small amounts of crack cocaine and prescription medication in the rented BMW SUV after the driver and occupant fled from the scene. No Oviedo firefighters were injured in the crash but blood samples collected from the deployed airbags in the SUV suggest that both occupants of the car were injured in the crash.

Police say Alcohol and Excessive Speed were Contributing Factors in Rollover Accident

A Longwood city commissioner and his female passenger are in critical condition after a recent rollover accident near the intersection of Ronald Reagan Boulevard and North Street in Longwood. Witnesses to the accident told investigating police that the white Ford Mustang the commissioner was driving was seen speeding and ran a red light shortly before the accident. Longwood police say that alcohol was a factor in the crash, which began when the Mustang struck a median and overturned after running the red light.

Drunk Driving Accident Leads to DUI Manslaughter Charges for Driver

Florida Highway Patrol officials recently filed DUI manslaughter charges against a Leesburg man in connection with a drunk driving accident that claimed the life of his passenger. Troopers say that the accident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on County Road 452 near Lake Yale Baptist Assembly Road near Umatilla in Lake County when the driver lost control of his 1996 Ford SUV, drove onto the shoulder, overcorrected and rolled several times. His passenger, a 31-year-old Lady Lake man, was ejected from the SUV during the accident and was rolled over by the vehicle when he landed. The driver was booked into the Lake County Jail and released on $50,500 bail.

Auto Accidents Force Florida to Lower Speed Limit on Interstate 4

Drivers passing through Central Florida on Interstate 4 may need to add some travel time as they head north or south through Volusia County. State highway officials recently announced that they are lowering the speed limit on a 14-mile stretch of I-4 due to construction work and the inordinately high number of accidents recently. Officials are lowering the limit from 70 mph to 60 mph for the affected portion of I-4 after dozens of accidents were reported over the last couple of months. A spokesperson said a traffic study concluded before the construction began found that lowering the speed limit would not be necessary while the road was resurfaced.
