Engine Breaks Off Vehicle During Multi-Car Crash in Kissimmee
South Poinciana Boulevard in Kissimmee was closed for several hours earlier this week after a multi-vehicle crash claimed the life of one driver and injured three other people, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Preliminary incident reports from the responding troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that it was shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, when an individual driving a van was travelling along Pleasant Hill Road approaching the upcoming intersection with South Poinciana Boulevard. As this driver prepared to make a left turn onto South Poinciana Boulevard, a 31-year-old man from Poinciana entered the area from the opposite direction driving a 2010 Honda Insight down the painted center median. Neither driver was able to avoid a collision and the two vehicles were involved in an accident.
The momentum from the first crash caused the Honda Insight to rollover and enter the southbound lanes where it slammed into an SUV head-on. This secondary collision dislodged the Honda’s engine and propelled the piece of machinery across the roadway into a sedan that was driving in the northbound direction of South Poinciana Boulevard.
Officers with the Florida Highway Patrol and emergency services in Kissimmee were dispatched to the scene of the four-car crash and soon after their arrival, they discovered that the 31-year-old Poinciana man had sustained fatal injuries and passed away.
The 30-year-old driver of the SUV, along with her two-year-old and five-year-old passengers, suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
No one else was harmed during this deadly collision.
Although it is unclear exactly why the 31-year-old victim was travelling within an area of the street that’s typically prohibited for traffic, there are a few potential possibilities behind his driving behavior. This individual could have suffered from a medical episode while behind the wheel, could have been distracted by a cell phone, or perhaps the vehicle itself sustained a malfunction of some kind. Further information is expected to be released by local authorities at the conclusion of their investigation.
