It was 4:30 in the morning as the individual was headed down Alafaya Trail, drawing near to an area known for its swampiness and general murkiness.
High School Student Dies in Tampa Crash
A student of Plant High died on Tuesday, January 21st, as a result of injuries they had sustained in a car accident that had taken place over the weekend. Reports from police working within the Tampa Police Department indicated that the incident took place on Saturday.
Police Vehicles Struck During Pursuit in Melbourne
On Friday, January 10th, an officer with the Melbourne Police Department was on patrol when they witnessed an individual operating their vehicle in such a way as to cause the officer to initiate a traffic stop. Teenager Loses Control of Truck, Dies in Marion County Crash
A crash involving a single car within Marion County has resulted in the death of an individual. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, members of which responded to the reports of the initial accident and were on hand shortly after the crash to investigate and assist motorists in passing through the area, while paramedics and EMT’s treated the driver of the car. The incident happened very early in the morning, close to 3:00, along a fairly rural stretch of County Road 484.
Leesburg Church Suffers Damage in Evening Fire
An investigation remains underway regarding a massive fire that broke out at a Leesburg church close to 6:45 on the night of Friday, January 10th. Reports from the church leaders as well as fire officials who responded to the initial reports of the fire initially indicated that the reason behind the sudden fire was not known. It was revealed shortly afterwards that, in fact, there was reason to believe that the fire was the result of an intentional act of vandalism and that the individual who caused the fire was identified and apprehended shortly after the incident began.
Two Cars Strike and Kill Pedestrian in Clermont
Police with the Clermont Police Department were among the first responders to reach the area of a crash between several vehicles and a pedestrian within the city of Clermont on the night of Sunday, January 5th. According to the reports issued from this organization, the incident took place sometime around 11:45 at night, close to the intersection of State Road 50 and Sandhill View Boulevard. It is not clear if the accident took place at the intersection of these two roads or if it happened elsewhere. This information is important as it can help to indicate whether or not the pedestrian was using a crosswalk – or if a crosswalk was even available – at the time of the incident.

A busy Melbourne road was closed as of early on Monday morning after a collision resulted in an investigation as well as a lengthy cleanup time. On the afternoon of Wednesday, January 8th, a crossing guard working for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office was standing at the intersection of Avalon Road and West Colonial Drive in order to assist students from both the Tildenville Elementary School and the Lakeview Middle School in crossing the busy intersection while on their way home.
Historic Wrongful Death Settlement Reached by Family Against Ikea
In a landmark move by the Swedish furniture mega-company Ikea, the family of a child who died after a dresser fell on them will be receiving $46 million as a settlement. Spokespeople for Ikea indicated that they understood there was no amount of money that could make up for the tragic removal of a child. The massive settlement is currently the largest wrongful death involving a child settlement that has occurred in the history of the United States.
