Orange County Individual Narrowly Rescued from Fiery Crash
An Orange County man was inside his car and on his way to work on Friday, the 10th of January, when something occurred within their car to cause them to lose control of their vehicle. It was 4:30 in the morning as the individual was headed down Alafaya Trail, drawing near to an area known for its swampiness and general murkiness.
At this same time, two deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were on patrol nearby. According to their reports, they were in or near their vehicle when they heard a very loud noise coming from Alafaya Trail. Both deputies said that the volume of the crash made it clear to them that this was a fairly severe incident that was going to require their immediate attention.
When they reached Alafaya Trail, they began to drive slowly, scanning the thick brush of the swamp in order to try and find the vehicle or vehicles they heard involved in the crash. After a short period of time, they saw some bushes that had clearly been run over, and beyond them the taillights of a car that had flipped onto its side. The deputies stopped their vehicle and rushed to the other car.
Inside, they found the driver, momentarily unconscious. The two deputies proceeded to smash the windows of the car in an attempt to access and free the injured man. While doing this, they saw a carseat in the back of the car. Concerned that there was possibly an infant within the vehicle, the two deputies left the man and began to search for the child. It was shortly after this that the man in the driver’s seat woke up. He told the two deputies that he was alone in the vehicle, refocusing their attention on freeing the man.
As they worked to free him, smoke started to fill the air, informing the three individuals that the car was on fire. Members of the Orange County Fire Rescue were now at the scene as well, and together with the two deputies they managed to free the trapped driver, saving his life.
The driver suffered a concussion and doesn’t remember the incident in any way. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
