Motorcyclist Dies in Volusia County Wreck on Sunday
Sunday morning, three friends decided to go for a motorcycle ride east of Osteen. Only two of them will ever make it home. The three motorcyclists were riding in a group around a bend on Maytown Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. when one of the three drivers lost control of his bike.
2014 Daytona Beach Biketoberfest Recap
The 2014 Biketoberfest was held in Daytona Beach, Florida from October 16-19. Thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts cruised the roads of eastern Florida, and enjoyed music, food and lots of entertainment. Estimates place the total number at 500,000, but more conservative estimates drop that number all the way to 250,000. Unfortunately, there were two accidents which resulted in the deaths of two festival-goers, and there was one possibly dangerous situation at a local bar.

Break out the leather and rev up your engines, it’s time again for Biketoberfest at the legendary Daytona Beach in Florida. This annual festival for 2014 runs from October 16-19, and is bigger and better each and every year. Man Killed in Orlando Motorcycle Accident
An Orlando man was struck and killed recently in a collision between his motorcycle and a van in east Orange County. Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported that the accident occurred on Colonial Drive near Forsyth Road around 3 a.m. one recent morning. They say that the 25-year-old victim was traveling west on Colonial Drive when his motorcycle was struck on the side by a van driven by a 26-year-old man, also from Orlando.
St. Petersburg Man Killed in I-4 Motorcycle Accident
Accident investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol say that a motorcyclist was killed on Interstate 4 recently when his bike was struck from behind by a passenger vehicle. Troopers say that the victim, a 34-year-old St. Petersburg man, was traveling westbound on I-4 near mile marker 73 in Orlando when a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old Orlando man came from behind him in the outside lane and struck the back of his motorcycle without slowing down. They say that the rider was struck from behind by the right fender of the car.
Two Killed in Lake County Motorcycle Accident
Two motorcyclists are dead after being struck by a car driven by an elderly driver in Howey-in-the-Hills in Lake County. According to Cpl. Richard Roman of the Howey-in-the-Hills Police Department, the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on State Road 19 near Savage Circle. Roman reports that the victims were riding with a group of four motorcycles when the driver crossed over the centerline and struck them head-on. He said that the group of riders was northbound on S.R. 19 when the elderly driver, age and address unknown, drove her Toyota sedan into their lane and sideswiped one of the riders before striking another motorcycle head-on.
Motorcycle Accident Fatalities Continue Upward Trend
According to a study recently published by the Governors Highway Safety Association, Florida ranks third in the country behind Texas and California, respectively, for the number of people killed in motorcycle accidents. Nationally, motorcycle accident fatalities have increased 14 out of the last 15 years (1997 to 2012,) with accident statistics continuing this trend thus far in 2013. Nearly 4,000 motorcyclists were killed in the U.S. from January to September 2012 but the authors of the study expected that number to climb to nearly 5,000 by the end of 2012. At least 287 people died in Florida motorcycle accidents over that same period of time, with 358 killed in Texas and 318 in California.
Six Motorcycle Fatalities During the 2013 Daytona Biketoberfest
For the first time since 2011, there were tragic deaths at Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach. Six individuals died during the 2013 event which ran from Friday October 18 to Sunday October 20th. Biketoberfest is held annually as a gathering for bikers from across the nation, and includes bike shows, concerts, contests and other festivities.

Altamonte Springs Man Killed in Orlando Motorcycle Accident
Florida Highway Patrol troopers report that an Altamonte Springs man was killed recently when his motorcycle was struck by a sport utility vehicle near Orlando. Troopers say that the 33-year-old victim was northbound on Rio Grande Avenue about 2:30 p.m. when a southbound Honda CRV driven by a 62-year-old Orlando woman turned onto 24th Street and struck the left side of the victim’s Suzuki motorcycle. The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. Witnesses report that the rider may have been speeding before the accident occurred and that he and another motorcycle has just passed two other northbound vehicles before the accident occurred.
