Head-On Accident Injures Two Children and Critically Injures Two Women
A recent head-on collision involving two passenger cars in Seminole County has injured two children and critically injured the two women, who were driving the vehicles. According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating the accident, the accident occurred around 8 a.m. on U.S. Highway 17-92 near Interstate 4. Troopers report that a 50-year-old Orange City woman was driving a Chrysler south on U.S. Highway 17-92 when she traveled into the northbound lanes and struck a Honda coupe head-on. The driver of the Honda, a 29-year-old Deltona woman, and the driver of the Chrysler were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they received treatment for critical injuries.
Two children who were passengers in the Honda were also injured in the accident. Both were taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. One child suffered minor injuries and was released shortly after being admitted. The other is listed in stable condition with undisclosed injuries. Troopers are still conducting their investigation into the crash but say that charges are pending against the driver of the Chrysler.
Troopers have not announced why the woman driving the Chrysler crossed into oncoming traffic but the overwhelming majority of accidents like this involve one or more of the following:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
- Talking or texting on a cell phone while driving
- Reaching for an object on the floor, eating, disciplining a child in the back seat or another type of distracted driving
- Falling asleep at the wheel
- Overcorrecting to avoid striking an object in the road
- Traveling in the wrong direction on a one-way street or highway
- Attempting to pass a slower vehicle
