Multi-Car Crash Kills One in Osceola County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 18, 2020

While each different type of collision – head-on, T-bone, rear-end – carries with it a different sort of danger, there is a unique horror faced by those involved in chain-reaction crashes. These, as one might know or easily deduce, are crashes that start small but ultimately involve numerous vehicles as the effects of the initial crash ripple outward. Crashes such as these are often the result of inclement weather, where rain or fog reduces visibility and prevents drivers from seeing pre-existing crashes, but they can also happen on days where no notable weather conditions are present.

In these instances, it is usually the case that the road features high-density traffic and what begins as a small incident rapidly involves numerous other vehicles simply because of the limited space to maneuver. This was the case on the morning of Friday, December 4th, when motorists were traveling down US-192 within Osceola County.

It was close to 7:30 a.m., and drivers were making their way to work in rush-hour traffic. One of the vehicles on the road, a pickup truck, was nearing the intersection of US-192 and Griffin Road when the driver, for reasons that remain the subject of an investigation, failed to slow down in response to a slower sedan traveling before it. As a result, the pickup truck crashed into the rear of the sedan with considerable force.

The driver of the sedan lost control of their vehicle at this time and was unable to prevent their car from crashing into the rear of a vehicle traveling directly before it. This third car was pushed violently enough to cause its driver to also lose control, a circumstance which resulted in it crashing into a fourth vehicle.

When police and emergency medical personnel reached the scene, they found that the driver of the sedan had suffered from the most severe injuries. This individual was rushed from the area to a nearby hospital where, unfortunately, they were declared dead as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

The 59-year-old driver of the pickup truck is facing numerous charges. The crash does still remain under investigation by the authorities.
