Florida Turnpike Crash in Lake County Kills One, Severely Injures Another
A stretch of the Florida Turnpike was closed for several hours earlier this morning after a severe rear-end collision claimed the life of one driver and seriously injured another along State Road 19 in Lake County.
Preliminary auto accident reports from the Florida Highway Patrol state that it was close to 3:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023, when a yet-to-be-identified woman was driving a 2003 Buick Century in the southbound direction of State Road 19 near Howey-in-the-Hills. At this same time, a 39-year-old man from Orlando driving a 2018 Kia Sorento entered the area from the same direction. As both vehicles approached mile marker 285, something caused the driver of the Buick Century to slow down in traffic. The driver of the Kia Sorento was unable to properly react in enough time to avoid a collision and his vehicle rear-ended the Buick Century.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol and local Lake County emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of the two-car crash and discovered that the female driver of the Buick Century had already passed away from her injuries.
The 39-year-old Orlando man sustained severe injuries during the car accident and was transported to South Lake Hospital. He is said to be in stable condition.
This fatal accident is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. No further details have been released.
We’re Here to Help
When deadly collisions like this occur, it can oftentimes be difficult to determine the chain of events that led to the crash itself, especially along an open highway like the Florida Turnpike. Possible contributing factors include:
- Mechanical malfunctions/faulty car parts.
- A medical episode, like a stroke, heart attack, or seizure.
- Dangerous/defective roadways.
- Poor weather conditions.
- Electronic device distractions.
- Driving under the influence.
If you have been seriously injured during an auto accident that was not your fault, it is imperative that you seek out reliable legal representation to assist with the recovery of lost wages from missed work, doctor’s appointments, surgeries, and physical therapies.
