Pedestrian Killed by Orange City Police Cruiser Responding to Emergency Call
Very early on Monday, June 1st, an incident happened in Orange City, located within Volusia County, that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. Currently, the collision remains under investigation, however we know that it began around 12:45 a.m. At this time, in another part of the city, a disturbance was reported involving numerous people. In the emergency calls, it was indicated that a shotgun was involved, although it is not clear if any shots were fired.
UPDATE: Speed Limit Reduced Along S.R. A1A After Child’s Death
After a tremendous amount of energy and effort was expended by a community located within Indian Harbor Beach, lawmakers have finally agreed to lower the speed limit along a stretch of State Road A1A as well as install additional warning signs and flashers on the road in order to provide extra safety for pedestrians in the area. The move follows a coordinated effort put forward by the community around a family who lost their 12-year-old daughter in a fatal pedestrian accident after she was struck by a car and killed while attempting to cross the road.
Early Morning Tampa Crash Leaves Pedestrian Dead
It was early in the morning on Monday, April 6th, when an individual on foot was walking beside Adamo Drive within the City of Tampa. The exact time that the individual was walking was not included in the preliminary report, but we have from the authorities that the incident took place close to the intersection of 28th Street and Adamo Drive.
Pedestrian Killed by Car While Crossing Osceola County Road
A fatal auto accident which involved a car and a pedestrian within Osceola County has resulted in an ongoing investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. According to the reports that have so far emerged from this investigative body, the accident took place sometime around 6:45 in the evening on Monday, March 31st. Involved in the incident were a 57-year-old man from St. Cloud and a 35-year-old man from Pennsylvania. The 35-year-old is believed to have been behind the wheel of a BMW at the time.
Bill Passed by Florida House to Enhance Pedestrian Crossing Zones
In a major breakthrough for people fighting to increase the safety for pedestrians throughout Central Florida, the Florida House passed a bill on Monday, March 9th, that is the first step towards getting better pedestrian crossing safety features along certain roads. The bill, known as the Sophia Nelson Pedestrian Safety Act, stems directly from a tragic crosswalk accident which took place around Christmas of last year.
No Charges for 82-Year-Old who Struck and Killed Child Pedestrian
In an update to an ongoing story that captured the attention of many within Central Florida, an 82-year-old Cape Canaveral woman who was behind the wheel of a car when it fatally struck a 12-year-old girl will not face any charges in relation to the incident. The fatal pedestrian accident itself took place on the 22nd of December, as the 12-year-old was walking with her family close to the intersection of Ellwood Avenue and State Road A1A.
Crash Kills Pedestrian in Osceola County
Little is currently known about a fatal auto accident that took place between a car and a pedestrian within Osceola County on Sunday, February 16th. The information currently available to the public suggests that it was sometime during the late afternoon that an individual on foot was attempting to cross the street close to the intersection of U.S. 192 and Old Vineland Road. It is not clear if the pedestrian was at the intersection when they began crossing the street or if they instead chose to try and cross where there was no intersection and, therefore, no crosswalk.
DeLand Crash Kills Pedestrian
An elderly DeLand man was on foot close to the intersection of Woodland Boulevard and Wildwood Road on Monday, January 27th, when they decided to leave the shoulder or sidewalk where they were traveling at attempt to cross the street. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicated that the pedestrian accident took place close to 6:50 in the evening, after the sun had set but before the deep darkness of the night had truly settled in.
Cocoa Police Investigate Late-January Pedestrian Death
Police working with the Florida Highway Patrol close to Cocoa have released a statement regarding the death of a pedestrian who was on foot and attempting to cross U.S. 1 when they were struck and killed by a car. At the time of this writing, the name of the 57-year-old victim has not been released by the authorities. It is not clear if they have been identified.
Daytona Police Department Attempting to Combat Bike and Pedestrian Deaths
Police officers inside of Daytona Beach are working hard on a new program aimed at ensuring that the number of deaths and injuries suffered by bikers and pedestrians within their city begins to drop. According to a report from News 6, the initiative began sometime after it was revealed that Daytona Beach ranks 4th on the list of most dangerous mid-sized cities in the entire state of Florida. In an effort to increase safety for pedestrians and bikers in the area, the High-Visibility Enforcement project will focus on increasing communication to both bikers and pedestrians.
