Orlando Man Arrested After Allegedly Causing a Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision
According to the first responders with the Florida Highway Patrol, a 26-year-old driver from Orlando was taken into custody earlier this morning for his alleged connection to a severe hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a local construction worker near the intersection of Emerson Lake Boulevard and Narcoossee Road.
Preliminary collision reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol working within Orange County indicate that it was close to 2:30 a.m. on February 7, 2022, when a 26-year-old man from Orlando was traveling in the southbound lane of Narcoossee Road, which is temporarily under construction at the street’s intersection with Emerson Lake Boulevard. Due to the current road work that is being performed in the area, oncoming southbound traffic is being shifted and re-routed into the northbound lane. For reasons that are unclear at this time, the 26-year-old failed to change lanes when prompted by the safety signage in the vicinity and crashed into a pair of construction trucks that were parked along the shoulder of the street. The impact from this collision propelled one of the trucks forward into two construction workers who were standing near the vehicles at the time of the accident.
After the initial rear-end collision occurred, the Orlando man’s vehicle then crashed into a pickup truck that was being driven by a 34-year-old woman who is also from Orlando. The 26-year-old driver then exited his vehicle and fled the scene of the crash and attempted to hide in the marsh located near the site of the accident. Authorities indicate that two-off duty agricultural workers from John Hall Construction were able to detain the individual until additional officers arrived at the scene.
Local Orange County emergency personnel arrived at the crash site to find that one of the construction workers, a 35-year-old man, had already passed away from the severity of his injuries sustained during the incident. The other victim, a 48-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The 34-year-old woman in the pickup truck suffered minor injuries during the collision.
This deadly pedestrian accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Charges against the 26-year-old driver are pending and further information is expected to be released to the public once the case has been closed.
