73-Year-Old Woman Killed in Daytona Beach Pedestrian Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 22, 2020

On Monday, September 14th, 2020, authorities with the Daytona Beach Police Department responded to 9-1-1 calls of a potentially fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a pickup truck close to the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and South Ridgewood Avenue. According to preliminary statements retrieved at the scene, the victim was attempting to cross the busy street outside of the designated pedestrian walkway when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

It was shortly after 5:30 p.m. earlier this month when first responders and officers with the Daytona Beach Police Department arrived at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and South Ridgewood Avenue to find a severely injured 73-year-old woman unconscious in the road. Emergency response teams quickly rushed to the victim’s aid and applied immediate medical attention to the severe head injury that she had sustained in the collision. As soon as she was temporarily stabilized at the scene, the victim was then transported to Halifax Medical Center for further life-saving treatment. Sadly, due to the severity of her injuries, the 73-year-old woman passed away shortly after arrival. Her name has been withheld from the press until next-of-kin has been notified.

Investigators with the local Traffic Homicide Unit in Daytona Beach indicate that the victim was initially trying to make her way from the east side of Ridgewood to the west side of the street when a silver 2016 Dodge Ram entered the vicinity. The pickup truck, being driven by a 39-year-old Ormond Beach man, was in the process of turning north on Ridgewood from eastbound Magnolia when his vehicle struck the elderly pedestrian. Witnesses stated that the elderly woman was approximately 25 feet away from the intersection’s designated crosswalk in front of a popular sub shop when she stepped off the curb and into the path of the truck. The driver of the Dodge Ram remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated fully with the Daytona Beach Police Department. There are no charges pending at this time.
