Two Dead After Small Plane Crashes Near Orlando

Two people, a man in his 50s and a female teen, who may be father and daughter though they have not yet been identified, died on the morning of November 20th when a small airplane they were traveling in crashed into a southwest Orlando lake. The plane took off from Orlando Executive Airport shortly after 11:15 a.m., only five miles away from the crash site in Clear Lake, a roughly 300-acre lake off Rio Grande Avenue. The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene and were the only two people on board, according to Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings. It’s estimated that were in the air for only 15 minutes or less.

Dunedin Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash

St. Augustine Beach Man Critically Injured When Teen Driver Strikes Him in His Wheelchair

A man riding in a motorized wheelchair was left with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a car on A1A South in St. Augustine Beach and pinned under the vehicle on November 20th. When St. Augustine Beach Police arrived at the scene, they found a motorized wheelchair operated by Craig Lightner, 67, had been struck by a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis operated by Zoe Walker, 19. Craig was pinned under the Mercury, and was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses at the scene told investigators that Craig’s wheelchair may have become disabled in the roadway just prior to the crash, the Sheriff’s Office said. However, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Uninsured Driver Crashes into Tallahassee Fried Chicken Restaurant

Krispy Krunchy Chicken, a fried chicken joint in Tallahassee, Florida recently re-opened for business following a car accident that left the front of the establishment in pieces. On Monday, November 9th around 8 p.m., officials responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash at W Tharpe Street and High Road in Tallahassee. The vehicle crashed through the front of the Krispy Krunchy Chicken restaurant, shattering the glass entryway and coming to a rest inside of the building. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle says he was driving down High Road, turned into the parking lot, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the restaurant. Luckily the driver, customers and staff all walked away unharmed. However, the driver did not have insurance and was cited for driving without a license.

Man Loses Parts of Both Legs in Cape Canaveral Dredging Accident

A man was seriously injured in Cape Canaveral, Florida on November 11th, while he was working as on a channel dredging barge. The man fell from a barge and was injured underwater by a pair of spinning propellers that caused him to lose one leg below the knee, as well as the foot on the other leg. The victim was able to cling to a rope and was rescued by fellow crew members. He was immediately taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center. His name has not been released, and the Coast Guard is investigating the incident.

Man Killed in Hillsboro County Semi Truck vs. Car Accident

A man from Apollo Beach man died on November 9th, when he was involved in a crash with a semi-truck in Hillsborough County. Kevin James Davis, 38, was driving south on U.S. 41 when investigators say a semi-truck turned into his path, and his BMW crashed into the trailer. Davis died from his injuries at the scene of the crash. A second semi, which was also heading south, hit the debris from the crash, but neither semi driver was injured in the crash. Investigators say charges are still pending.

DWI Wreck Causes Two Deaths in Tampa Neighborhood

A motorist is under arrest after an accident killed two people, and injured two others, in a two-vehicle accident in the neighborhood of Forest Hills, near Tampa, Florida. The accident occurred on Sunday, November 1st. Police said a suspected drunken driver crashed an SUV into a sedan with four people inside, at the intersection of Richard Street and Hartman Road. The two backseat passengers in the sedan, George Moon, 76, and Beverly Moon, 63, were killed at the scene. The front seat passenger’s included Moon’s 45-year-old niece, and the driver was the niece’s daughter. They were both taken to John Peter Smith Hospital with minor injuries.

Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Will Be Construction-Free in Florida

In an effort to improve highway safety over the long holiday weekend, the Florida Department of Transportation District Three office will halt lane closing on state roads and interstates through Sunday. Although existing work zones will remain in effect, the office has pledged no additional lane closures through the weekend. Motorists are reminded to continue to be vigilant around work zones for construction personnel and to observe slower speed limits in the area.

Gainesville Trucking Accident Sends Several Victims to the Hospital

A fiery crash on I-75 near Gainesville sent several victims to area hospitals late Wednesday afternoon. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just after 5 p.m. and involved at least two semi-tractor trailer trucks and several passenger vehicles. One of the trucks contained was leaking diesel fuel and caught fire. Large plumes of black smoke could be seen for a least a mile. First responders were on the scene, including fire fighters, police, and hazardous spill specialists to help contain the blaze and prevent further injuries.
