Wildwood Man Killed During Multi-Vehicle Crash on County Road 466
According to preliminary details from the Florida Highway Patrol, one person was killed and three others were severely injured Monday evening during a deadly multi-vehicle collision along County Road 466 in The Villages.
Initial auto accident reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that it was shortly before 10:00 p.m. on December 19, 2022, when an 18-year-old man from Leesburg was driving a sedan-style vehicle in the westbound direction of County Road 466 heading towards Buena Vista Boulevard. At this same time, a 27-year-old man from Wildwood and his 22-year-old passenger were approaching the intersection of C.R. 466 and Buena Vista Boulevard. For reasons that are currently unknown, the 18-year-old driver failed to stop for a red light controlling the intersection and slammed into the side of the Wildwood resident’s vehicle.
The impact from the T-bone collision propelled both vehicles into a nearby traffic pole and the continuing momentum caused the 27-year-old driver to crash into a 46-year-old man from Ocala who was driving a sport utility vehicle near the intersection at the time.
Multiple emergency response teams from Marion & Sumter Counties, as well as officers with the Florida Highway Patrol, were dispatched to the scene of the three-car pile-up. Many life-saving measures were applied to help the 27-year-old Wildwood driver, however, he sadly passed away due to the severity of his injuries. His 22-year-old female passenger from Leesburg was also severely injured and was transported to a local hospital.
The 46-year-old driver of the SUV and his 63-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries during the collision.
The 18-year-old driver from Leesburg and his 18-year-old passenger suffered severe injuries during the incident and they were both taken to the hospital for further medical treatment.
This multi-vehicle crash is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol. No additional information is known at this time.
