Two-Car Crash in Tampa Kills 55-Year-Old Riverview Resident

Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol operating within Hillsborough County are currently investigating a deadly auto accident between two vehicles Tuesday morning on State Road 574 that claimed the life of a 55-year-old resident of Riverview.

According to preliminary crash reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was almost 5:00 a.m. on November 8, 2021, when a 55-year-old man from Riverview was driving a white SUV-style vehicle in the westbound direction of State Road 574. As he approached the road’s intersection with Riga Boulevard, he attempted to maneuver a left-hand turn with his vehicle but instead ended up in the direct path of an oncoming pickup truck that was being driven by a 54-year-old man from Tampa. Neither motorist was able to avoid the accident and the two vehicles forcefully collided with one another in the middle of the road.

As soon as the Hillsborough County 9-1-1 call center received notification of the two-car crash, emergency response teams, members of the Florida Highway Patrol, and local police officers were dispatched to the scene of the accident. Within a matter of minutes, rescuers were able to retrieve both victims from their badly damaged vehicles. The 54-year-old Tampa man was secured safely in an ambulance and was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. There have been no further updates regarding his condition. The 55-year-old Riverview man was also taken to a local hospital, but he sadly succumbed to the severe nature of his injuries, despite the valiant efforts put forth by the medical staff.

The investigation into this devastating collision is still ongoing, however, officials with the Florida Highway Patrol did indicate that both men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
