Three-Car Crash in Marion County Kills 56-Year-Old SUV Driver
Authorities with the Ocala Police Department are currently investigating a deadly three-car crash that claimed the life of one individual and seriously injured four others this past Tuesday evening on State Road 200, just south of the Shoppes at Paddock Park in Marion County.
According to initial incident reports from traffic homicide detectives with the Ocala Police Department, it was close to 7 p.m. on October 12, 2021, when 56-year-old Munir Shrouf was sitting in his Hyundai SUV at a Red Lobster located near the 3200 block of State Route 200. As he drove his vehicle up to the parking lot’s exit, he proceeded to pull out onto the heavily trafficked road in front of the restaurant. This maneuver positioned his SUV into the direct path of two other vehicles that were traveling westbound along State Route 200.
Officers indicated that a 30-year-old driver in a Toyota Scion crashed into the side of the Hyundai SUV and started to spin out of control right before it was rear-ended by a third vehicle – a gray Honda.
Local Marion County emergency responders along with members of the Ocala Police Department were dispatched to the scene where they discovered three badly damaged vehicles with multiple victims requiring immediate medical assistance. Rescuers pulled 56-year-old Munir Shrouf, his 53-year-old wife, and their 23-year-old daughter from the SUV’s wreckage and quickly transported them to the nearest hospital. Both mother and daughter are currently in stable condition, however, the patriarch of this family suffered life-ending injuries and he passed away shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
The 30-year-old driver of the Scion and the 52-year-old driver of the Honda were also taken to the hospital for treatment and are said to be in stable condition at the time of this writing.
A two-block radius surrounding the crash site was closed off for several hours while accident reconstructionists, investigators, and crash cleanup crews worked to remove the dangerous debris and chunks of mangled cars from the roadway.
