Several People Injured During Multi-Car Crash in Melbourne
A 30-year-old driver in Brevard County is facing a long list of legal charges this weekend after he allegedly stole a vehicle and caused two separate car accidents last Thursday evening near the intersection of North Wickham Road and Parkway Drive in Melbourne.
According to preliminary incident reports from members of the Melbourne Police Department, it was close to 5:30 p.m. on July 28, 2022, when local 9-1-1 dispatchers started to receive complaints about a red Ford sedan that appeared to be intentionally crashing into a black Mercury sedan near the area of Aurora Road and Mosswood Drive.
Shortly after the first collision occurred, Melbourne officers attempted to make a routine traffic stop, but 30-year-old Titusville resident Dominique Scott, who was behind the wheel of the Ford sedan, sped away from the accident. The female driver of the Mercury sedan remained at the crash site and told officers that she had been involved in a physical altercation with Scott and was a victim of domestic violence. The woman, whose name has not been released to the public due to privacy concerns, stated that she was trying to locate Scott and finally saw his vehicle near the intersection of Eau Gallie Boulevard and Wickham Road. She said that she tried to get him to pull over but he purposely slammed into her car and sped away to a nearby side street where she was able to catch up with him. Both she and Scott exited their respective vehicles and started to physically fight in the middle of the road before the police showed up and Scott fled the scene.
After another failed attempt to stop Scott, officers reported that his sedan ran a red light at the intersection of Parkway Drive and Wickham Road and was struck by several other vehicles. The force from the impact of this second collision caused three individuals who were inside the Ford sedan to be ejected from their vehicle. One juvenile was medevaced to a hospital in Orlando while the other crash victims were taken to nearby hospitals in Brevard County as trauma alerts.
The driver of the Ford sedan, Dominique Scott, has been charged with several serious charges, including aggravated child abuse, aggravated fleeing, reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury, aggravated battery with a motor vehicle, battery with one prior conviction, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and driving with a permanently revoked license.
