Man Killed in Polk County Florida Highway 27 Car Accident
A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Cypress Gardens Boulevard and US Highway 27 near Winter Haven fatally injured one man and sent three more to area hospitals. Police say one vehicle was southbound on Highway 27 and attempted to make a westbound turn when it was struck by another southbound vehicle early Sunday morning. Because the occupants of both vehicles have given authorities conflicting statements, it is unclear who was at fault in this accident.
Vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death for adults in the state of Florida according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Speeding and alcohol consumption, either separate or together, are often factors in the worst auto accidents. Though wearing a seat belt is a law in the state of Florida, often wearing a seat belt is not enough in these types of incidents. The Florida Highway Patrol urges all drivers to stay alert and use good judgment behind the wheel.
A severe injury or death of a loved one comes with physical, emotional and financial consequences. While the victim is in the hospital or at home recovering, medical bills can start to pile up. If the injury is so severe that the individual is unable to work, basic bills may go unpaid. There may not even be enough money to fill basic needs such as food and electricity. This can lead to spiraling debt and a huge emotional burden for whole families. Many people may not know where to turn for help when the situation gets out of control.
