Orlando Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash Caught on Neighborhood Camera
As thousands of drivers around the state of Florida take to the roads this week for Thanksgiving travel, one local family is trying to figure out what exactly happened to their 12-year-old child, who was involved in a hit-and-run collision in Orange County last Friday.
Preliminary incident reports from the responding troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that it was shortly before 4:30 p.m. on November 18, 2022, when a 12-year-old boy from Orlando was riding his bicycle toward the intersection of Auburn Cove Lane and Avalon Park East Boulevard from the west. At this same time, a sedan-style vehicle entered the area from the northern direction of Avalon Park East Boulevard and struck the young bicyclist, who was trying to ride across the street when the collision occurred.
The driver of the vehicle who was involved in the accident with the child immediately fled the scene. A nearby witness who was walking her dog ran over to help the severely injured 12-year-old until emergency services were able to arrive.
Orange County EMTs and members of the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene of the bicycle accident and transported the 12-year-old victim to the nearest hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. His current condition is unknown.
A residential surveillance camera was able to record the car crash in real time. It provided Orange County officials with a generalized description of the suspected hit-and-run vehicle, however, it did not show the license plate. No further information is known at this time.
Orange County detectives are now requesting the public’s assistance with the identification of the hit-and-run driver or their vehicle. If you have any information regarding this collision, please contact your local police department, the Florida Highway Patrol at (407) 737-2213 or the state’s toll-free Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS.
