Motorcyclist Severely Injured During Hit-and-Run Crash on Gandy Bridge
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol working within Pinellas County are currently searching for the driver of a Tesla that was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Gandy Bridge last Sunday morning.
According to early incident reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, it was approximately 3:00 a.m. on July 16, 2023, when a yet-to-be-identified individual was driving a white Tesla Model 3 at a high rate of speed in the westbound direction of the Gandy Bridge. At some point along the bridge, the Tesla encountered a Suzuki GSXR-750 motorcycle that was being driven by a 20-year-old man from Tampa. The two vehicles were involved in a collision, which caused the motorcycle to overturn on the roadway. The driver of the Tesla fled the scene of the accident immediately after it occurred.
Several local law enforcement agencies and emergency responders were dispatched to the crash site, including authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol. Medical teams quickly transported the 20-year-old motorcyclist to the nearest hospital with severe injuries. No additional updates regarding his condition have been released to the press.
Upon closer inspection of the hit-and-run accident, investigators discovered bits of debris left behind by the white Tesla, which ultimately led them to an apartment complex located in Largo where the driver-in-question allegedly resides. The Tesla was confiscated by authorities and logged into evidence, however, the driver of the vehicle is still unknown.
