Labor Day Weekend Crash Kills One in Seminole County
Local and state law enforcement agencies have been on high alert for the past three days around Florida in order to prevent minor and major auto accidents from the increased traffic due to Labor Day travel and tourism. Sadly, one such incident already occurred on Saturday along U.S. Highway 17-92 in Seminole County.
According to preliminary collision reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol working within Seminole County, it was close to 4 a.m. on September 3, 2022, when a 28-year-old man from Altamonte Springs was allegedly driving his 2009 Infiniti G37 at a high rate of speed in the southbound direction of U.S. Highway 17-92. As the driver approached the vicinity of Golden Birch Lane, he encountered a 35-year-old man from Orlando who was driving in the northbound direction of U.S. Highway 17-92 in a 2012 Ford F-350 with an attached trailer. The driver of the F-350 proceeded to make a left turn from the highway onto a nearby driveway and in doing so, he positioned his vehicle in the direct path of the oncoming Infinity. Neither driver was able to avoid a collision and the Infinity crashed into the Ford F-350.
Several Seminole County emergency responders and officers with the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene of the accident. Upon their arrival, they quickly determined that the 28-year-old driver required additional medical assistance for his life-threatening injuries and he was transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford. The young man was unable to survive and passed away shortly thereafter.
The 35-year-old driver of the Ford F-350 was unharmed during the incident and remained at the crash site in order to further assist the authorities with their investigation. At this time, no formal charges have been filed against anyone in this case.
