Head-On Crash in Marion County Kills 75-Year-Old Woman
Local authorities are currently trying to piece together the remaining bits of evidence left behind from a two-vehicle auto accident Wednesday evening that claimed the life of a 75-year-old woman on County Road 42 in Marion County.
According to preliminary reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was close to 6:10 p.m. on June 22, 2022, when a 28-year-old man from Paisley was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe in the eastbound direction of County Road 42. At this same time, a 75-year-old woman from The Villages was driving a Ford Edge with her 57-year-old and 77-year-old passengers in the western direction of the highway. As both vehicles approached a curve in the road, the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe swerved into the westbound lane and into the direct path of the Ford Edge. Neither driver was able to avoid a collision with one another and they crashed into each other head-on.
The force from the auto accident caused the Chevrolet Tahoe to spin out across County Road 42 before finally coming to a complete stop and blocking both lanes of traffic in the process. The Ford Edge came to a rest along a grassy area next to the road.
Emergency response teams in Marion County and officers with the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene of the head-on crash and quickly determined that the 75-year-old driver of the Ford Edge had sustained fatal injuries and had already passed away. The victim’s 77-year-old passenger from The Villages suffered critical injuries and was immediately transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center for additional medical treatment. The other passenger, a 57-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, also sustained critical injuries and was taken to the Ocala Regional Medical Center. The 28-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was also taken to the same hospital in critical condition.
