Driver Seriously Injured During Orange County Hit-and-Run Crash
Florida Highway Patrol officers working within Orange County are currently searching for the driver and vehicle believed to be connected to a hit-and-run collision that critically injured a 71-year-old woman Sunday morning along Chickasaw Trail.
Preliminary incident reports from members of the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that it was just a few minutes before 11:00 a.m. on June 4, 2023, when a 71-year-old woman from Haines City was driving her Subaru Forester in the eastern direction of State Road 408 in Orange County. Authorities state that as she approached the intersection of S.R. 408 and Chickasaw Trail, the Haines City woman ran the red light controlling her flow of traffic in an attempt to turn left onto Chickasaw Trail. This dangerous maneuver positioned the Subaru Forester in the direct path of a white sedan-style car that was traveling in the southbound direction of Chickasaw Trail. Neither driver was able to avoid a collision and the two vehicles were involved in a rear-end crash.
The impact from the accident caused the Subaru Forester to roll over several times and catch fire before finally coming to a complete stop on the nearby sidewalk against the safety guardrail of the road. Witnesses to this chain of events raced over to the Subaru and successfully pulled the 71-year-old victim from her seat. She was transported with critical injuries to Orlando Regional Medical Center by Orange County emergency response teams. Her current condition is unknown at this time.
The unidentified driver of the white sedan proceeded to flee the scene of the accident in the southern direction of Chickasaw Trail. Their vehicle is said to have sustained damage to the front left headlight.
The Florida Highway Patrol is requesting the public’s assistance with the identification of the white sedan-style vehicle and/or the driver behind the wheel. If you have any information, please contact your local precinct, the state’s toll-free Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS, or the Florida Highway Patrol at (407) 737-2213.
