Truck Crashes into and Severely Damages Orange County Home, Injuring Teen Occupants
Florida Highway Patrol troopers that a pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old with no driver’s license lost control recently and crashed into an Orange County home. Troopers say that the crash seriously injured four teens who were riding in the truck but no one on the home was injured. Footage from a neighbor’s surveillance camera showed the moments before the Ford Ranger slammed into the home with enough force to push the home off its foundation.
Troopers say that the video shows the 16-year-old driver was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck on Kalani Street when he lost control after failing to negotiate a left curve in the street. The video shows that the teen unsuccessfully tried to regain control of the truck before it crashed into the front of the home.
Marco Avila, the homeowner’s son, told troopers, "I was in church while all this happened. The foundation has been compromised and you can’t live in (the house.)"
The teen driver and five more 16-year-olds were riding in the truck at the time of the accident, but troopers report that four of the teens were riding in the bed of the truck when it struck the home. All four teens in the truck bed were ejected during the crash. They were all rushed to area hospitals, where they are listed in serious condition with undisclosed injuries. The driver faces charges of careless driving with serious bodily injury and driving without a license. It is unknown whether or not the teen is the owner of the Ranger.
