Kissimmee Man Killed During Rear-End Collision with Tractor-Trailer on I-4
Officers with the Florida Highway Patrol operating within Osceola County have officially opened a formal investigation into the death of a 34-year-old man from Kissimmee after he sustained fatal injuries during an accident with a tractor-trailer early Tuesday morning along Interstate 4 near State Road 536.
According to preliminary collision reports from the responding authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was almost 1:15 a.m. on October 12, 2021, when a 26-year-old man from Windermere and his 34-year-old passenger from Kissimmee were traveling in a 2003 Toyota Tundra down I-4 near mile marker 65 close to the Osceola Parkway. Troopers with the FHP indicated that as the Tundra was driving in the eastern direction of the interstate, it quickly came upon a slower-moving tractor-trailer in the right lane. In order to avoid a crash with the big rig, the 26-year-old driver tried to steer his pickup truck away from the semi, but he accidentally clipped the back of the trailer with the front passenger’s side of the Tundra.
As soon as the Osceola County 9-1-1 dispatchers received notice of the deadly collision, they immediately sent out emergency response teams to the crash site to assess the situation. Upon their arrival, EMTs determined that the 34-year-old passenger of the Toyota Tundra had received severe life-threatening injuries during the accident and had already passed away before any medical treatments could be administered. The 26-year-old driver of the pickup surprisingly only suffered minor injuries, although it is unclear if he was transported to a local hospital or was able to be treated at the scene.
The 44-year-old tractor-trailer driver, a resident of Bradenton, was unharmed in the incident. All three men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
Since detectives have yet to determine the exact cause of this rear-end collision, it is still possible that the 26-year-old driver of the Toyota Tundra could face charges, although authorities have not released information of that nature to the public at this time.
