Out-of-State Resident Killed in Marion County Pickup Truck Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 23, 2020

Members of the Florida Highway Patrol are currently still investigating a fatal accident involving a single pickup that crashed in Marion County, killing the driver. According to the reports from the FHP, the incident took place during the afternoon of Friday, August 21st, while the individual in question, a 56-year-old man from Alabama, was traveling down the southern lanes of Interstate 75.

It is believed that the Alabama resident was alone in their vehicle at the time of the crash, which will somewhat hamper the investigation into the reasons behind the collision. What we know at the time of this writing is that it was close to 4:45 in the afternoon when the 56-year-old had turned their pickup truck onto the southern lanes of I-75 and began to drive through Marion County.

It was as this individual was traveling down an unnamed stretch of roadway that they suddenly lost control of the pickup truck. As is often the case, the driver of the pickup truck attempted to regain control of their vehicle, but their efforts were simply not enough to stop the pickup truck from spinning out of control even as it shot off towards the right side of the road. Still attempting to regain a handle on the vehicle, the driver jerked the wheel some more which caused the pickup truck to swerve back across the roadway and onto the leftmost shoulder.

Standing along the shoulder was a tree, and the driver of the pickup truck had swerved their vehicle in such a way as to cause it to head directly towards this tree. Before the driver could regain control of the pickup truck, they crashed into the tree with considerable force.

Even though the driver of the pickup truck was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the force of the impact between the vehicle and the tree caused them to sustain severe injuries. By the time the emergency medical teams reached the scene, there was nothing that they could do to revive the individual. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

As stated above, the Florida Highway Patrol remains in the process of investigating the crash.
