Driver Dies After Being Ejected In Pickup Truck Crash Near Tampa

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 22, 2020

An incident that took place close to Tampa remains under investigation by members of the Florida Highway Patrol working within Hillsborough County. Reports from the authorities indicated that the truck accident in question took place very early in the morning on Thursday, the 16th of July. At the time of this writing, what we know comes from reports issued by the Florida Highway Patrol.

At close to 1:30 a.m., a 33-year-old Brandon resident was behind the wheel of a pickup truck and traveling down the eastern lanes of Interstate 4 when something happened to cause them to lose control of the vehicle. The investigation is looking into whether or not the driver of the vehicle was being affected by any substances at the time when the accident took place. Members of the Florida Highway Patrol are also seeking information on whether the driver of the car was using a cell phone at the time of the accident or if perhaps another vehicle was involved that fled from the scene shortly after the crash took place.

After the driver lost control of the vehicle, they left the roadway and began to drive down the center median of the road. It is not clear how long the driver was traveling along the center median, but we do know that they remained unable to regain control of the vehicle until after they had collided with a guardrail that runs along the highway.

The driver of the car was not wearing a seatbelt when they lost control of the vehicle, and during the moments before the crash with the guardrail they were likely more invested in attempting to bring the car back onto the road than they were in securing the belt. As a result, when they struck the guardrail they were still not wearing a seatbelt. The force of the impact ejected them from the vehicle and onto the ground.

The driver suffered tremendous injuries during this process, and by the time they were reached by emergency response teams, there was nothing that could be done to save the individual. They were declared dead at the scene of the crash.
