Deadly Pickup Truck Crash Kills 24-Year-Old Tampa Resident
First responders and detectives with the Florida Highway Patrol operating within Hillsborough County are currently trying to piece together the chain of events leading up to a fatal pickup truck accident that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man from Tampa early Monday morning on Jackson Road.
According to initial collision reports from officers with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was shortly after midnight on September 13, 2021, when the 24-year-old Tampa resident was driving a 2010 Honda Fit in the northbound direction of Jackson Road close to U.S. 301 in Thonotosassa. Officers indicated that as the driver approached the highway’s intersection with Jackson Road, he failed to yield at a stop sign governing the area and slammed into a Ford F250 pickup truck that was traveling in the eastbound direction of U.S. 301. The force of impact from the collision caused the truck and the sedan to spin out of control before they both came to a complete stop along the shoulder of the road.
Local Hillsborough County emergency response teams and troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol arrived at the scene of the deadly accident to find that the 24-year-old driver of the Honda Fit had suffered severe injuries during the collision and had already passed away before any medical assistance could be administered to the young victim. The 31-year-old driver of the Ford F250 and his 31-year-old female passenger, both from Thonotosassa, were uninjured. Everyone was wearing their seatbelts when the crash occurred.
It is unclear at this time if the driver of the Ford F250 will face any legal charges or consequences, although it appears highly unlikely. Further information is expected to be released to the public once authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol finish their investigation.
