Orlando Car versus Truck Accident Injured One
A car accident involving multiple vehicles left one person severely injured. According to Orlando police, the accident happened early Monday morning near the intersection of West Oak Ridge Road and Millenia Boulevard.
Although details of the cause of the accident remain under investigation, it is known that a SUV slammed into a semi-truck, causing the SUV to get wedged under the truck and trapping the driver and a passenger inside the burning vehicle. Police had to use multiple fire extinguishers to keep the victim from burning while they waited for firefighters to arrive.
Once the fire was out and the people removed from the vehicle, both were rushed to the hospital where one was being treated for life-threatening injuries and the other for minor injuries. The driver of the semi-truck is reported to not have been injured.
Significant Injuries and Damage
As made clear by the case at hand, an accident involving a car and a semi-truck typically results in significant injuries and damage. This is because trucks tend to be significantly larger than the other vehicle involved in the crash. As a result, the damage to the other vehicle is usually substantial and the injuries to its occupants serious – if not deadly. In fact, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, in just one year, truck accidents accounted for 287,000 property damage claims, 77,000 injuries and 4,321 deaths.
If this Orlando truck accident was caused by the truck driver, then the two injured victims have the right to seek damages by suing the truck driver or his place of employment. In their lawsuit, they can ask to be compensated for their medical care, physical therapy, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, future medical costs and, in some cases, for their pain and suffering.
