Child Injured in Osceola County Pickup Truck Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on May 13, 2020

A child from Osceola County is in stable condition at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital after being involved in a severe and nearly fatal pickup truck accident on the morning of Monday, May 11th. Reports from the Osceola County Fire Rescue stated that the incident began shortly before 11:45 in the morning, when a pickup truck was traveling down Silver Lake Court within Osceola County.

The report failed to provide many pieces of information, such as who was driving the truck and whether or not they were the parent or legal guardian of the child. The reports also failed to mention whether or not anyone else was within the cab of the vehicle. Based on the report’s wording, it seems entirely plausible that the child, believed to be 5 years old, was traveling in the back of the pickup truck. If so, there was nothing in the report to indicate whether or not there was anyone else in the back of the truck, such as an adult, to supervise the child and ensure that they were safe at all times. Perhaps for this reason, at a certain point along the road the child was ejected from the back of the vehicle.

The 5-year-old landed on the roadway, close to the still moving truck. One of the child’s legs fell in such a way as to be directly in the path of the oncoming vehicle, and before the child or the driver of the truck could change anything, the truck rolled over the child’s leg, causing it to suffer fairly substantial injuries.

Shortly after the accident, emergency medical teams arrived at the area and began to treat the child. Although in pain and with a badly mangled leg, the child was not believed to be in a life-threatening situation. They were flown from the location of the accident to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital located inside of Orlando, and there they began to receive treatment from doctors and nurses. It is believed that the child is currently in stable condition, although we are not fully informed as to the full range of the injuries they suffered in the fall and impact with the truck’s rear tires.
