Two Orange County High School Students Struck by SUV on Goldenrod Road
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) operating out of Orange County are currently investigating the cause of a pedestrian accident that injured two teenage girls early Tuesday morning after they were both struck by an SUV while walking to school along Goldenrod Road by Valencia College Lane.
According to preliminary collision reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, it was approximately 6:55 a.m. on September 7, 2021, when local Orange County 9-1-1 operators first received notification of a potentially severe auto accident involving two 14-year-old female high school students and a sport utility vehicle close to the intersection of Goldenrod Road and Valencia College Lane near Colonial High School. Officers with the FHP indicated that an unnamed 59-year-old woman was driving a 2021 Ford Bronco in the southern direction of Goldenrod Road and as she approached the street’s intersection with Valencia College Lane, the two young girls stepped out into traffic and into the direct path of the oncoming SUV.
Orange County emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of the accident almost immediately after the collision occurred, and after medically assessing and stabilizing the two injured teens, both were transported via ambulance to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando. They are both expected to make a full recovery, although their current conditions are unclear.
It has yet to be determined which party was at fault for the accident as officers with the Florida Highway Patrol have received conflicting reports from both parties involved in the collision. The driver of the SUV stated that the high school students “darted out” in front of her vehicle as the traffic light turned green, however, when the two girls were questioned about the incident, they said that the traffic light was red when they tried to cross the street. This accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol and further details surrounding the crash are expected to be made public as soon as the case is closed.
