Pinellas County Car Crash Kills 52-Year-Old Pedestrian
There have been 7,042 auto accidents resulting in 66 fatalities within Pinellas County alone since the beginning of this year, according to the latest set of statistics from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. One such incident occurred over the weekend as investigative authorities with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to work in conjunction with additional local law enforcement agencies in order to determine the chain of events that led to the death of a 52-year-old male pedestrian along Gulf Boulevard in Treasure Island, Florida.
According to statements from the responding officers with Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, it was shortly before 10 p.m. this past Sunday evening that dispatchers were first notified of a car vs. pedestrian accident right in front of the Penthouse Beach Club located at 10182 Gulf Boulevard. Authorities have indicated that 53-year-old Christopher Grazer was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan in the southern direction of Gulf Boulevard when 52-year-old Daniel Wells attempted to walk across the same busy street from the east to the west. Shortly after Mr. Wells stepped into the roadway – not in a designated crosswalk area – near the popular beach resort, he was struck by the front passenger side of the Dodge Caravan.
Pinellas County emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene of the deadly accident where they were able to stabilize the pedestrian victim long enough to be transported by ambulance to a local hospital, however, due to the severity of his life-threatening injuries, the 52-year-old sadly passed away shortly after arriving at the trauma center.
The 53-year-old driver of the Dodge Caravan remained at the crash site after the fatal collision occurred and was said to be in full cooperation with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Although a specific cause has yet to be determined, neither speed nor alcohol are believed to have been a factor in this truly tragic accident.
