Florida Man Enters No Contest Plea in Connection With Fatal Boating Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 10, 2011

Orlando personal injury lawyer James O. Cunningham would like to remind boaters to exercise extra care while on Florida’s waterways and cautions them to avoid drinking alcohol while in control of watercraft. A 41-year-old Deltona man charged with careless operation of a vessel in connection with a boating accident that killed a DeLand woman and her father has entered a no contest plea. The man entered the plea after Volusia County Judge Belle B. Schumann dismissed two similar counts against him. The judge decided to dismiss the two charges due to double jeopardy concerns because all three charges were filed due to one boating accident.

Orlando Man Struck and Killed By Deputy Pursuing Illegal Street Racers

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 9, 2011

A tragic pedestrian accident has claimed the life of a 21-year-old Orlando man who stepped off a median on Wetherbee Road into the path of car driven by an Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy. The deputy was trying to stop an illegal street race around 3 a.m. early on the morning of July 3. Orlando personal injury lawyer James O. Cunningham has seen tragic accidents like this happen many times over the years, and they all share a common thread – reckless and completely unnecessary and negligent driving. He knows that the sheriff’s deputy is as much of a victim as the unfortunate pedestrian who appeared to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when officers were trying to apprehend drag racers.

Rally Driver Loses Control, Causes 5-Car Crash Near Orlando

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 7, 2011

A popular rapper and others were at the scene of a recent multi-car accident near Orlando when an Audi R8 lost control and triggered a five-car collision. Accident investigators say that rapper Ice-T was one of many participants in an infamous Las Vegas to Miami road rally called the Bullrun Rally. Named after an illegal cross-country race where drivers sped their cars at reckless speeds across the country to claim a prize, the Bullrun Rally is trying to distance itself from that unsafe and unsavory reputation. It is now marketed as a “lifestyle event” for high-end luxury automobiles from one waypoint to another, usually at speeds well above the posted speed limit. Local police call the rally “a nightmare,” and Orlando personal injury attorney James O. Cunningham would have to agree.

Seminole County Judge Takes Creative Approach to Curb Drunk Drivers

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 5, 2011

Orlando personal injury lawyer James O. Cunningham fully supports anything that reduces the number of drunk drivers on our roads and believes that an 18th Circuit Court judge in Seminole County may be onto something. Judge Carmine Bravo has been famous for his creative approach to sentencing for quite some time, but the never-ending parade of DUI cases in his court has prompted him to hand down some unusual sentencing since 2004. Since then, he has sentenced those convicted of drunk driving and other traffic offenses to write 500-word essays about people whose names appear on the many roadside markers in Central Florida.

Orlando Personal Injury Lawyer Takes Dim View of New Florida Law

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on June 29, 2011

Orlando personal injury attorney James O. Cunningham is very concerned about a new Florida law that limits injured people’s rights in product liability cases. On June 23, Governor Rick Scott signed a bill into law that will allow jurors in a product liability case to consider the cause of the accident that led to the case. This new law has potentially devastating effects on people injured in accidents caused by defective automobiles. Previous Florida product liability laws gave injured people greater freedom in pursuing damages against the manufacturers of defective products by limiting companies’ ability to protect themselves.
