Worker Fatally Injured at Orlando Theme Park
A worker at Orlando amusement park Magical Midway was mortally injured while on the job at the park recently. Accident investigators report that the 20-year-old victim was performing maintenance on a ride called the Star Flyer at the attraction at 7001 International Drive on Saturday, July 4. Problems began when the worker got stuck and subsequently lost his grip on the ride. When Orange County Fire and Rescue emergency responders arrived at the scene a few minutes later, they found the man dangling from his safety harness more than 50 feet in the air. Accident investigators say the man fell while working on the ride and struck several wooden beams before being caught by his safety harness. The park was open when the accident occurred and witnesses watched in horror as the man hung suspended from his harness until rescue personnel arrived. Witnesses said that they could see the 30-year-old worker had suffered significant head and leg trauma and was unconscious while hanging in the air. Park employees cleared park visitors from the area to allow emergency responders to rescue the man. Rescue personnel successfully lowered the man to take him to an area hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival from severe head trauma. The amusement park was closed for the rest of the day on Saturday while an investigation was conducted into the fatal accident. Magical Midway was open for business the next day, but the Star Flyer ride remained shut down.
