FHP Launches Effort to Curb Hit-and-Run Accidents
As they do every year, the Florida Highway Patrol launched its initiative last Friday to try and reduce the number of hit-and-run accidents that take place along Florida roads. In Florida, hit-and-run accidents seem to be even more of an issue than elsewhere. The statistics gathered paint a dire picture. In the 2017 alone there were over 98,000 reports of hit-and-run accidents. Out of this number, 177 of the reported incidents resulted in a fatality.
Orlando Man Accused of Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Turns Himself In
An Orlando man accused of driving a vehicle that struck and killed a 15-year-old East Orange County boy in 2010 and then fled the scene of the accident is now in jail. The 30-year-old suspect turned himself in to Florida Highway Patrol troopers recently and faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, violating a restriction on a driver’s license and failing to stop at a hit-and-run accident involving the death of the teen in November 2010. If convicted on the hit-and-run charge, the man could receive 30 years in prison.
