Two Killed in Rear-End Accident Caused By Drunken Driver

A recent rear-end auto accident that claimed the lives of an Orlando man and woman was caused by an impaired driver, according to Orlando Police. They say that the victims were the driver and passenger of a car that was struck from the rear as they slowed down to stop at a red light. Police officers report that the accident occurred on World Center Drive near the intersection with State Road 535. They say that the driver of a 2007 Toyota Corolla and his passenger were fatally injured when they were rear-ended by a 2010 Dodge Charger driven by a 20-year-old man, address unknown.

Ten People Hospitalized and Eighteen Injured in Florida Boating Accident

A recent Florida boating accident injured at least 18 people, with ten of them injured seriously enough to send to hospitals for treatment. Accident investigators say that the accident occurred near Elliott Key in Biscayne National Park when two boats collided. One of the boats was a 36-foot powerboat carrying 16 people. The other boat was much smaller and was carrying two people at the time of the accident. Authorities say that the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. and that many of the injured suffered serious injuries that required immediate medical attention.

Florida Lawmakers Finally Pass Texting Ban for Drivers

In a move applauded by James O. Cunningham and other Orlando distracted driving accident lawyers, Governor Rick Scott is expected to sign a law banning drivers from sending texts later this month. After many false starts and attempts at passing legislation, state lawmakers finally got a bill through committee and onto the governor’s desk. SB 52 isn’t nearly as comprehensive as texting bans in other states are, as drivers will still be able to text while stopped at red lights or otherwise stopped in traffic and violations will be treated as a “secondary” offense. A secondary offense means that in order for drivers to be ticketed for texting while driving, they will first have to be cited for another violation such as speeding, improper lane usage, etc.

Woman Struck and Killed in Orlando Pedestrian Accident

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers have arrested one driver and are looking for another in connection with a recent fatal pedestrian accident in Orlando. Troopers say that the accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. one recent morning near the intersection of South Orange Blossom Trail and 39th Street. They report says that the victim was walking across South Orange Blossom Trail when she was struck for the first time but was not at an intersection or walking in a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident.

Two Women Struck and Killed By SUV While Waiting for a Lynx Bus

Orlando police say that two women were recently struck and killed by a sports utility vehicle while they sat at a Lynx bus stop. Police report that the women were waiting for a bus around 10:45 p.m. one recent evening at the bus stop on Silver Star Road near Le Havre Boulevard when they were run over by a 2004 Hyundai driven by a 45-year-old woman, address unknown. Accident investigators say that the driver of the Hyundai was traveling westbound on Silver Star Road when she suddenly swerved and drove into the two victims. Police do not yet know what caused the driver to swerve into and strike the victims.
