Two People Killed and another Person Injured in Aviation Accident near Panacea

A recent aviation accident near Panacea has claimed the lives of two people and seriously injured a third. Investigators report that the accident involved a helicopter, which crashed in a heavily wooded and swampy area near the airport in Panacea. In a statement, the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office said that the crash occurred shortly before 8 p.m. and claimed the life of the pilot, a 53-year-old Tallahassee man, and one of his passengers, a 49-year-old man also from Tallahassee. A 45-year-old Tallahassee woman, who was a passenger on the helicopter, was injured in the crash and transported by medical helicopter to a Tallahassee hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Toyota Recall for Brake Problems affects 261,000 Vehicles

Toyota recently announced a recall that affects more than 261,000 vehicles sold in North America and abroad to address a brake problem that could result in increased risk of accidents for the affected vehicles. The recall involves 261,114 Lexus RX crossover vehicles, Toyota Tacoma pickup trucks and RAV4 sport utility vehicles. Toyota reports that the brake problems are caused by an electrical component within the brake actuator that adjusts the fluid pressure for each of the brakes on the affected vehicles. Toyota says that in some cases, improper fluid pressure causes increased resistance to the brake pedal.

Orlando Boaters Urged to Take Approved Safety Course

Mount Dora Man Killed in Trucking Accident

A 41-year-old Mount Dora man killed in a recent trucking accident was a physician known for his exceptional warmth and skill putting patients at ease. According to police investigators, the man was killed on a busy stretch of U.S, Highway 441 in Leesburg around 6:38 in the evening. Police say that the man was driving his Hummer H3 southbound on U.S. 441 when he crashed into a tractor-trailer driven by 53-year-old Wisconsin man. Investigators report that the truck driver pulled out of the Family Furniture Galleries lot and into the path of oncoming southbound traffic on the highway, cutting off the victim and giving him little time to react.

Two Killed in Lake County Motorcycle Accident

Two motorcyclists are dead after being struck by a car driven by an elderly driver in Howey-in-the-Hills in Lake County. According to Cpl. Richard Roman of the Howey-in-the-Hills Police Department, the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on State Road 19 near Savage Circle. Roman reports that the victims were riding with a group of four motorcycles when the driver crossed over the centerline and struck them head-on. He said that the group of riders was northbound on S.R. 19 when the elderly driver, age and address unknown, drove her Toyota sedan into their lane and sideswiped one of the riders before striking another motorcycle head-on.

Five People Injured in Florida Head-On Auto Collision

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say that a recent head-on collision in west Orange County sent five people to area hospitals for treatment for undisclosed injuries. Troopers say that the collision occurred around 9:25 a.m. as one of the drivers, a 58-year-old woman driving a 2013 Hyundai south on Powers Drive, suddenly crossed over the center line near the intersection with Balboa Drive. Troopers report that she drove directly into the path of another Hyundai driven by a 27-year-old woman with three passengers in her car, one of which was a 15-year-old boy.

Driver Faces Charges in Fatal 2012 Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident

A spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol recently announced that they have made an arrest in connection with a fatal hit-and-run bicycle accident that occurred on Sept. 22, 2012, near Apopka. The suspect, 24-year-old Ryan Scott Peterson, turned himself in to troopers recently and faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident causing death. He is charged with causing the death of a 31-year-old bicyclist, who was found on the shoulder of Orange Blossom Trail around 8 a.m. on Sept. 22. Troopers say that the victim had been struck and killed hours earlier while riding along OBT.

Ocoee Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Orange Blossom Trail

Orlando pedestrian accident attorneys were saddened to learn of our area’s most recent fatal pedestrian accident on Orange Blossom Trail. Florida Highway Patrol accident investigators say that the victim, a 42-year-old Ocoee man, was attempting to cross OBT north of Holden Avenue when he was struck and killed by a Honda driven by a 51-year-old Orlando man. Troopers report that the accident occurred around 9:40 in the morning and the victim was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Marine Patrol finds Fatal Lake Pickett Boating Accident Victim

Divers have recovered the body of a woman who fell out of a canoe recently in an Orange County boating accident. Officers with the Orange County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol found the victim the day after she fell out of a canoe while fishing on Lake Pickett with two friends. The lake is located in the eastern part of the county between Bithlo and Chuluota. The investigation is ongoing while divers recover evidence from the bottom of the lake and officers have not yet announced if they plan to file any charges in connection with this fatal boating accident. Investigators have only said that the two men riding in the canoe with the victim were pulled from the water shortly after the accident and that attempts to locate the woman immediately after the accident were unsuccessful.
